Women’s Golf Sits in Second After 36 Holes at Women’s Invitational at Medinah

10/7/2024 | Women's Golf

MEDINAH, Ill. – Riding its momentum from the previous tournament, Ole Miss women's golf capped off the first two rounds of the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah in second place, sitting just one-stroke behind the leader at Medinah Country Club.

In the first round of action on the day, the Rebels fired home a 279 (-9) before one-upping their previous score with a 278 (-10) to finish the day at 19-under. Ole Miss was one of only five teams to shoot under-par both rounds and the lone team to have five players finish off the first day in the top 25 individually.

This week's SEC golfer of the week in Caitlyn Macnab led the way for the Rebels, stringing together two rounds of 69 (-3) to end the day in sixth place, shooting 6-under. Along with notching a spotless front-nine in her second round, the senior made 11 more birdies to bring her total to 37 on the year.

Tied with Macnab was Kajsalotta Svarvar who recorded an outstanding second round, tying for the third-lowest round score in program history with a career-low 65 (-7). The Halmstad, Sweden, native's nine birdies in the afternoon propelled her to go 6-under through two rounds and secure a share of sixth place heading into the final day.

Filippa Sundquist continues to prove to be a consistent contributor for the Rebels, shooting a career-low 18-hole score of 68 (-4) in the first round, alongside a 73 (+1), to find herself tied for 17th after tallying a scorecard of 141 (-3).

The other sophomore in the Rebel lineup was not far behind Sundquist as Sophie Linder went 2-under over the day. In the Carthage, Tennessee, native's first round of the day, she went bogey-free, putting together a 69 (-3) to help see herself into a tie for 21st.

Rounding out the lineup for Ole Miss was Nicole Gal who ended the day tied for 39th at 1-over. After struggling in the first round, the junior quickly bounced back to go under-par in the afternoon, shooting a 71 (-1) with 15 pars and two birdies.

Competing individually for the Rebels, Larissa Carrillo earned a new career-best 18-hole score after stringing together a pair of 71 (-1) rounds to cap off the day 2-under and in a tie for 21st with Linder.

The Rebels will finish off the two-day tournament tomorrow with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT in Medinah, Illinois.
