Ole Miss Golf Wins Two Tourneys on One Historic Day
10/8/2024 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Athletics
OXFORD, Miss. – It was a historic day on the links for Ole Miss as both the men's and women's golf teams earned tournament victories—a first in more than three decades.
Ole Miss men's and women's golf have both won tournaments on the same day just once before in the history of the programs, almost exactly 32 years ago on October 13, 1992.
The Rebels came close to hitting that mark in each of the last two years. This past spring, the men's team won the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 12, two days after the women won the Valspar Augusta Invitational. In 2023, the women won the Clemson Invitational on March 26, while the men had won the All-American Intercollegiate five days prior.
Women Win Illini Invite
Building on their Mary Fossum Invitational victory on Sept. 23, the Rebel women won back-to-back tournaments for the fourth time in program history and the third time under head coach Kory Henkes.
Ole Miss was excellent all weekend, shooting 9-under to lead after Round 1 and improved their score one stroke each round to finish at 834 (-30), the second-best team score in program history. Caitlyn Macnab shot 9-under to tie for third, leading a set of three Rebels in the top 10. Click here for a full recap of the latest tournament victory.
Men Money in The Hamptons
The men turned in strong showings with runner-up finishes in their first two tournaments of the 2024 season, but after seeing leads slip away their first two times out, they left no doubt at the Hamptons Intercollegiate with a 20-stroke victory at 838 (-26).
Chris Malloy's club placed four athletes in a tie for fourth or better, led by individual medalist Michael La Sasso, who was 11 strokes better than his nearest competitor at 15-under. Click here for a full recap of the men's dominant performance.
