Men’s Golf Sweeps at Hamptons Intercollegiate

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Ole Miss men’s golf swept the field this week at the Hamptons Intercollegiate taking home their first team and individual title of the season. The team finished with a 54-hole score of 838 (-26) in route to a 20-stroke victory. Junior Michael La Sasso secured his first individual title shooting 201 (-15), leading the field by 11 strokes.

Round two resumed Tuesday morning and Ole Miss picked up right where they left off Monday afternoon. The Rebels were led by La Sasso who fired an (-8) 64 in his second round which included nine birdies and an eagle.
He would cap off his tournament with a three-under 69, carding five birdies in his final round. La Sasso would go on to shoot 15-under, winning medalist honors by 11 strokes. It marks La Sasso’s first collegiate victory. The Raleigh, North Carolina native led the field this week in par-5 scoring average (3.92) and birdies (19).

Junior Cohen Trolio notched his second top five finish of the season, placing solo third this week at Maidstone Golf Club. Trolio finished in red figures in his final two rounds with a low round of (-4) 68. He remained steady all week in the difficult wind and rain leading the field with 36 pars.
Cameron Tankersley has been as solid as they come all season for Ole Miss recording his second top five finish of the season. Tankersley notched 14 birdies across his three rounds with a low round of (-2) 70. The junior from Dickson, Tennessee has finished inside the top 15 in all three tournaments for the Rebels this season.
Tom Fischer recorded a new career best individual finish placing in a tie for fourth. The junior from Birmingham, Alabama shot 214 (-2) on the week and led the field in par 4 scoring average (3.90). Fischer bounced back after an opening round 75, responding with a (-4) 68 in round two. He finished his final round at one-under, recording six birdies over his final 18 holes.
Kye Meeks finished his week in a tie for 15th shooting (+1) 217. Meeks played well on day one, battling the rainy and windy conditions. He recorded a low round of (-3) 69 and holed out from the 17th fairway in his final round for eagle.
Freshman Davis Gochenouer made his collegiate debut as an individual this week. The rookie from Dayton, Ohio finished in a tie for 50th with a low round of 74.

- The last tournament sweep came on October 31, 2021 at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. Ole Miss shot 838 (-26) finishing first and Jackson Suber took home medalist honors shooting 205 (-11).
- With wins today by both the men’s and women’s programs, it marks just the second time both teams have won on the same day. The last came on October 13, 1992, when both teams competed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The men won the Mississippi Coca-Cola Invitational, and the women won the Mississippi Intercollegiate.

FULL SWING AHEAD
Ole Miss will look to build on the win in two weeks at the Fallen Oak Invitational (Oct. 21-23). The Rebels will co-host the tournament along with Mississippi State and Southern Miss. The event will take place in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Fallen Oak Course.
