Men’s Golf Travels to Biloxi for Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational
10/18/2024 | Men's Golf
BILOXI, Miss. – Coming off an impressive win last week in East Hampton, the No. 2 Ole Miss men's golf team looks to close out their fall in style at the second annual Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. The Rebels will co-host the tournament along with Southern Miss and Mississippi State. Along the scenic Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Fallen Oak Course at the Beau Rivage will be the site for the three-day event.
BEHIND THE ARCHITECTURE
The Tom Fazio-designed Fallen Oak opened in 2006 and debuted at No. 19 on Golf Digest's America's 100 Greatest Public Courses. Golfweek has named it the No. 2 Casino Course in the country, behind only sister-course Shadow Creek, also designed by Fazio. Fallen Oak is characterized by a lush, rolling landscape covered in oak and pine ridges, magnolias, pecan groves, large lakes, winding streams and wetlands. The tees, fairways, and roughs are lined with 419 bermudagrass with the greens being tiff eagle Bermuda. There are 65 bunkers strategically placed throughout the course with tour angle sand installed in 2022.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH MALLOY
"We are excited to finish out our fall season on a high note. We've certainly gotten off to a good start, but now it's time to finish like we did in the last tournament. I'm looking forward to watching our guys compete."

PRESEASON BUZZ
Ole Miss earned preseason nods from Golf Channel with the No. 10 preseason ranking in the nation. The Rebels are one of 11 SEC teams inside the top 25 to start the 2024-25 campaign.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The Rebels look to make it back to postseason play after heartbreak last season at the Stanford Regional. Ole Miss fell one stroke from the cut line to advance to the NCAA Championship. The team finished the 2023 regular season with seven top five finishes, 16 individual top 10 finishes, and a team victory at the Seminole Intercollegiate down in Tallahassee. The Rebels carded 20 rounds under par on the season, including a 262-round score on the final day of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The 262 score of (-18) set the new lowest single-round score in program history. It was previously set by the 2022-23 team which shot 268 (-10) at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview.
VETERAN PRESENCE
The program returns six members from the 2023-24 roster including PING All-American and First Team All-SEC selection Michael La Sasso. Veterans Kye Meeks and Cameron Tankersley aim to build on a promising 2023-24 resume. Tom Fischer enters his junior season after a strong summer in the amateur circuit. Fischer was the 18-hole leader after round one at the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine, making it to the round of 32 match play.
THROUGH THE PORTAL
Malloy bolstered the roster with one signee through the portal with the addition of Cohen Trolio. The junior from LSU returns to his home state and is reunited with his younger brother Collins who enters his sophomore year with the team. Trolio notched 23 events for the Tigers with a 72.46 stroke average.
FULL SWING AHEAD
Fallen Oak will wrap the fall slate as the team will return to action in the spring beginning February 1-2 at the Thomas Sharkey Individual in Statesboro, Georgia.
