Football No. 11 in Week 12 College Football Playoff Rankings
11/14/2024 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – After a monumental win over then-No. 3 Georgia, Ole Miss football earned the No. 11 spot in the Week 12 College Football Playoff Rankings, slotting Lane Kiffin and the Rebels just inside of the latest CFP bracket projections.
However, as Kiffin attested to in his weekly press conference, there is still plenty of room for improvement for Ole Miss down the stretch, as well as plenty of work still to be done on the field.
Scroll on for a breakdown of the rankings and bracket projections, as well as what still lies ahead for the Rebs on the road to the College Football Playoff
Week 12 CFP Rankings
CFP Bracket Projections
If the season ended today, Ole Miss would be in as the final at-large team and the No. 11 seed, ahead of only Boise State, who is currently the fifth-highest-ranked projected conference champion. That spot would send the Rebels to Happy Valley for a 2024 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl rematch against Penn State. The winner would go on to play No. 3 seed BYU, then the winner of Texas vs. Alabama/Indiana in the semifinals.
Work Left to Do
Ole Miss is off this week for a much-needed bye, which the Rebels hope will allow them—namely star receiver Tre Harris—to heal up in time for a tough final stretch. Out of the bye, the Rebels will head to one of college football's toughest venues, The Swamp, to take on Florida. Just six days later, Ole Miss hosts in-state rival Mississippi State for the always-unpredictable Egg Bowl on Black Friday.
Dominoes to Fall
As we look at all the dominoes still to fall around the SEC and around the country, it still looks like the Always Sunny in Philadelphia meme come to life.
Let's start in the SEC, where there are eight teams with one or two losses in league play still vying for a spot in the SEC Championship, which itself could shake things up in the final week. The league has proven this year that anybody can beat anybody anywhere, but the obvious key matchups to watch: Tennessee at Georgia this weekend and Texas at Texas A&M on Nov. 30.
Elsewhere around the nation, Ohio State will host undefeated Indiana on Nov. 23, then reigning national champion Michigan the following week. BYU appears to be in the driver's seat in with no losses in Big 12 competition, but Colorado is one to watch with just one loss in league play. SMU, Clemson and Miami are tangled atop the ACC, which could earn one or two bids. Notre Dame is currently in but has work to do as well with Virginia, undefeated Army and a road trip to USC left on its slate.
