Women’s Basketball Hosts South Alabama Sunday Afternoon

OXFORD, Miss. – Following a break for finals, No. 22/23 Ole Miss women's basketball will continue its four game homestand by welcoming South Alabama to the SJB Pavilion on Sunday afternoon. The Rebels will face the Jaguars for second consecutive year at 2:00 p.m. CT, airing on SEC Network+.

OLE MISS VS. SOUTH ALABAMA
Sunday's game marks the 10th all-time matchup between Ole Miss and South Alabama in a series that dates to 1980. The Rebels are 7-2 against the Jaguars and are on a five-game winning streak against them. Ole Miss' most recent win came last season, with the Rebels claiming a 64-41 victory in Mobile, Ala.
The Rebels had its cleanest game of the 2023-24 season against the Jaguars, committing only 10 fouls. Marquesha Davis led the team with12 points and seven rebounds, while Madison Scott and Kennedy Todd-Williams contributed 11 and 10 points. respectively.
Ole Miss' best performance against South Alabama came in the 2014-15 season, with the Rebels routed the Jaguars, 88-48. Five players reached double-digit scoring, with Erika Sisk and Bretta Hart scoring 14 apiece. Danielle McCray nearly had a double-double, with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Ole Miss won the first two games of the series, which were played in 1980 and 1982. The Rebels and Jaguars didn't face each other again until 2001, when South Alabama claimed a 62-61 win in overtime. The Rebels are 3-0 in Oxford against the Jaguars.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
Yolisha Jackson leads South Alabama in her second season as head coach. The Jaguars are 3-5 to start the new season and are coming off a 79-44 win over Faulkner. Ole Miss is the only Power Four program on the schedule for South Alabama this season.
South Alabama returns seven players from last season's roster, highlighted by a pair of experienced point-scorers in Rachel Leggett and Jordan Rosier. The duo averaged the second- and third-most points for the Jaguars last season, respectively, with both in double figures.
Leggett averaged 10.4 points per game as a sophomore last season, and improved her rebounding average from 2.2 as freshman to 5.4 per game last season.
Rosier has the eighth-highest three-point percentage in the Sun Belt through eight games, knocking down 34.6 percent. Last season, she drained 80 three pointers, which ranks third all-time in a single season in South Alabama program history. She's presently averaging 9.3 points per contest.
REBELS AGAINST THE SUN BELT
Ole Miss is 60-16 all-time against current Sun Belt teams. This is the third consecutive year that the Rebels have faced a member of the Sun Belt, going 3-1 in four games in that span.
In recent memory, Ole Miss has primarily competed against Southern Miss, the Sun Belt team that Ole Miss has faced and beaten the most. The Rebels and Lady Eagles have faced off 25 times, with Ole Miss claiming 19 wins.
Ole Miss is 16-6 against Sun Belt foes since 2007.
LAST TIME OUT
In its first of four-straight home games, Ole Miss ran up the score against Tennessee State, defeating the Lady Tigers 85-38 at the SJB Pavilion.
The Rebels forced 22 turnovers and scored at least 20 points in each quarter. Ole Miss' 47-point victory over Tennessee State marks the third time this season that the Rebels have outscored its opponent by 40 or more points.
The Rebels used their trademark defense to hold the Lady Tigers to 3-of-19 from the three-point range. Tennessee State only made 13 field goals, the fewest by the Lady Tigers this season and the third-lowest allowed by the Rebels this season. With 14 steals, Ole Miss has now reached double figure totals in eight games this season.
Senior forwards Madison Scott and Kennedy Todd-Williams paced the team in scoring against the Lady Tigers. Scott put up 16 points to lead the Rebels, setting a season-high mark for the second time in two games. She also pulled in nine rebounds, coming just one rebound shy of her 29th career double-double. Todd-Williams had another big day for the Rebels, contributing 15 points. The Jacksonville, North Carolina, native has now reached double-figure points in each of the last five games.
SLOW DOWN, PARTNER
Ole Miss completely eliminated any chance of fast offense for Tennessee State and Delaware State, holding both teams to no points off of fastbreaks for the entire game. Also, the Rebels have outscored each of its opponents this season in fastbreak points, holding seven of the nine teams to under ten while averaging 13.3 per game.
TURNOVERS ON TURNOVERS
Ole Miss' defense remains its strung suit, forcing all of its nine opponents this year to make 18+ turnovers. Additionally, all but one of those teams lost the ball at least 20 times in their matchup with the Rebels.
Ole Miss turned defense into offense all night versus Alabama State, scoring a season-high 42 points off of the Lady Hornet's 33 turnovers.
ROBBIN' THE BANK
The Rebels like to keep their opponents on their toes, as Ole Miss is nationally known for forcing lost balls. Earning at least 10 steals in eight of its nine games this season, the Rebels rank No. 2 in the SEC for steals per game.
Twice this year, Ole Miss secured season-highs of 20 steals against Jackson State and Alabama State, with 12 Rebels contributing to the cause in the latter contest. Prior to this season, the last time an Ole Miss team tallied 20+ steals was Dec. 28, 2016, where the Rebels grabbed 24 against Mississippi Valley State.
