Macnab Sits Atop Leaderboard, Women’s Golf in Fourth Place at Gators Invitational
3/1/2024 | Women's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team kicked off its weekend Friday playing a round and a half at the Gators Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, ending the day in fourth place.
The Rebels kicked off the tournament strong, shooting 5-over par through the first round. Ole Miss carried that momentum into the second round to string together a score of 525 (+8) over the entire day.
Junior, Caitlyn Macnab, led the way for the Rebels as she carded a round one score of 66 (-4) before shooting 46 (-1) through 12 holes of the next round. With a total score of 112 (-5), Macnab earned the sole top spot on the individual leaderboard heading into Saturday as she looks to secure her third career medalist finish.
The Johannesburg, South Africa, native continues to top leaderboards after ranking first in the field for par-3 scoring (-3) as well as total birdies (9). Also, with Macnab's seventh round in the 60s this season, she now ties for second most in program history, trailing just Andrea Lignell (11).
The tandem of Justine Fournand and Sophie Linder also had a strong start to their weekend as they each finished the day tied for 25th at 4-over par. After a first round score of 72 (+2), Fournand shot nine pars over 12 holes to tally a tentative second round score of 48 (+2).
Although Linder found some adversity in her first round of the day going 4-over, the freshman bounced back and shot a 51 (E) across 13 holes before tournament play was suspended due to darkness.
Natacha Host Husted and Lignell round out the lineup for the Rebels with scores of 123 (+6) and 125 (+8), respectively. Husted will enter the final day in Florida tied for 39th after shooting a first round score of 73 (+3) and going 3-over par across 12 holes in the second round.
Lignell sits narrowly behind Husted on the leaderboard shooting a 76 (+6) and 45 (+2) across 30 holes of play, holding a tie for 50th.
Competing individually and making her first season appearance for the Rebels is Nicole Gal. Gal shot 128 (+7) across the round and a half. The sophomore will look to climb the leaderboard Saturday as she currently sits tied for 44th place.
The Rebels will start up right where they left off tomorrow at 7 a.m. CT and will look to conclude the second and third rounds of the tournament at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
