Rebels in the Rankings
As conference play begins to get into full swing, the Rebels climbed up into the ITA Team Rankings, with the Rebels settling into the No. 53 spot. Seniors Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt are the only Rebels to hold an individual ranking, coming in at No. 54 in the latest ITA Doubles order. As a duo, the Rebels garner an overall record of 20-6 in the 2023-24 season and have gone 10-1 in dual matchups.
Rolling in SEC Play
After the matchups against the Razorbacks and Commodores, the Rebels will open up a three-match road spell against Florida, South Carolina and Mississippi State before returning to Oxford for three straight home matches, ending with Senior Day on April 7 against Tennessee. The Rebels will then wrap up their regular season with a difficult road matchup against Alabama before heading into postseason play.
Caught a Tiger by its Toe
Although the Rebels got off to a tough start in conference play, the team did not let it affect their mentality as Ole Miss outdueled the 19th-ranked LSU Tigers, 4-2, last Friday to secure their first ranked win of the season. The Rebels came out hot in doubles play taking down two top 75 doubles tandems to secure the early advantage. The Rebel senior trio of Slavic, Engelhardt and John Hallquist Lithen all showed the grit of upperclassmen as they each won their singles matches in straight sets to seal the upset over the Tigers.
Team Profile: Arkansas
Arkansas will come into Oxford with some momentum as the Razorbacks secured their first SEC victory under head coach Jay Udwadia last weekend. Prior to their win against Vanderbilt, Arkansas was cruising through non-conference play defeating teams such as No. 56 Tulsa and Nebraska. The Razorbacks are led by the No. 63 ranked duo of Melvin Manuel and Jared Horwood who boasts a 5-5 record together. Arkansas also features Bozo Barun who garners a 10-7 singles record, including two ranked wins on court one.
Team Profile: Vanderbilt
Despite the Commodores sporting a 0-3 conference record on the season, the 64th-ranked team will pose as a threat to the Rebel lineup. Vanderbilt has secured six sweeps on the year and notched significant wins over Oregon and Northwestern in non-conference play. Danil Panarin leads the charge for the Commodores in singles as he has strung together a 10-4 overall record as a freshman. Jeremie Casabon and Nathan Cox will also prove to be worthy opponents as the duo has accumulated a 13-9 record this season.
