OXFORD, Miss – Ole Miss women's tennis swept double header in Oxford, extending their win streak to four matches. Emma Kette remained undefeated in dual singles on the season, helping the Rebels to their first conference victory.
Ole Miss (7-2, 1-0 SEC) opened SEC play with a dominated win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs (9-4, 0-1 SEC) with a final score of 4-0. Kelsey Mize and Andrea Nova fall on court three, however Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisova rallied to a 6-2 finish in No. 2 doubles. No stranger to the pressure, dynamic duo Briana Crowley and Ava Hraster finish up with a 6-3 victory to secure the 1-0 advantage.
The Rebels won three straight singles matches to start conference action. Emma Kette knocks it out of the park in the bottom on the lineup, with a relentless run. Kette adds another point for the Rebels, after finishing with a 6-0, 6-2 score.
Kareisova kept the pace strong in the No. 2 slot for Ole Miss. After completing her first set 6-3, Lida commanded the court, solidifying another point with a 6-1 second set.
Briana Crowley, a familiar face on court three, won her first set 6-3, but dropped in her second against Chloe Cirotte. In a forced third set by the Bulldogs, Crowley did a clean sweep, with a win of 6-0. Courts one, four, and five went unfinished after Crowley sealed the win.
Ole Miss was not done winning, adding a 7-0 sweep against Eastern Illinois (0-12) in the same day. Senior Lucie Devier makes her Oxford debut since being out with injury on doubles court one.
The Rebels won two straight doubles rounds led by the French connection of Devier and Leclercq-Ficher, holding a strong 6-1 finish. Making a great pairing on court three, Rachel Krzyzak and Reka Zadori tacked on a 6-0 win, securing the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In singles, the Rebels did not slow down, taking all six courts. Kelsey Mize puts up a perfect record of 6-0, 6-0 to get the ball rolling. Ava Hraster, and Zadori put up two more points for the Rebels, on their respective courts.
The freshman Andrea Nova continues to build her campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph, giving Ole Miss a comfortable position at 5-0. Leclercq-Ficher also had a strong performance returning to the No.2 slot, with a 6-3, 6-1 final.
Yet to lose in dual singles matches, Kette won a tie break in set one, giving her the advantage going into the second set. Once she got rolling the sophomore could not be stopped, dominating the second, 6-0, for the complete sweep over the Panthers.
The Rebels will stay home to defend their home win streak with more conference action on Friday, March 8, at 3 p.m. against LSU.
