Men’s Golf Completes 36 Holes in Third Place at Mossy Oak Collegiate

4/15/2024 | Men's Golf

WEST POINT, Miss. – No. 5 Ole Miss men's golf wrapped 36 holes on day one of the Mossy Oak Collegiate and posted an 11-under overall score to put it in 3rd place heading into the final round.

The Rebels had success as they boasted a 282 (-6) first round and followed up with a 283 (-5) second round. Overall, Ole Miss is second in the field in par-5 scoring (-16) and birdies made (43) from its first day in West Point.

"Today had a lot of positives for our entire team," head coach Chris Malloy said. "However, too many silly mistakes prevented us from being able to gain any momentum that we needed to post a low round. I'm confident that this group will be ready to go tomorrow and end our regular season on a positive note."

Leading for Ole Miss is sophomore Cameron Tankersley, who posted a 7-under overall score through his two rounds on the day, including a 67 (-5) first round. Tankersley made 10 birdies on the day to give him a tie for 4th placement. The sophomore will look to the final round to possibly earn back-to-back top-5 finishes for the first time in his career.

Tim Tillmanns began the day shooting an even first round but fought his way up 16 spots on the leaderboard with his 69 (-3) second round to put him in the top 20 at tied for 16th. Tillmanns made back-to-back birdies two consecutive times to keep his momentum up at 3-under overall.

Tied with each other at 28th are Rebel teammates Michael La Sasso and Collins Trolio. La Sasso shot an even 72 for both rounds on the day and will look to climb the ladder on the final round. Trolio, competing individually, started with a 75 (+3) first round, but the freshman turned things around in the second, firing off a 69 (-2) second round. Both Rebels hold an even overall score.

Tom Fischer started with a 71 (-1) first round but fell in the second round at 75 (+3) to put him tied for 43rd at 2-over overall. Right behind him is Kye Meeks who shot 3-over on the day and is tied for 47th.

Competing as the second individual, Patton Samuels will look to the final round to improve on his 5-over overall score at tied for 56th.

Ole Miss will tee off the final round of the Mossy Oak Collegiate on Tuesday in 10-minute increments. Samuels and Trolio will tee off of Hole 10 beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Tillmanns will lead off for Ole Miss on Hole 1 beginning at 9:40 a.m. CT for the rest of the Rebel crew.
