La Sasso to Represent Team USA in 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup
4/23/2024 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – Ole Miss men's golfer Michael La Sasso has been selected to represent the United States at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday.
The annual tournament, held this year in Lahinch, Ireland, features both men's and women's collegiate golfers from the United States facing off against their international counterparts in a team competition. Team USA currently leads the all-time series 14-12-1.
La Sasso is the first current Ole Miss men's golfer to be selected to represent in the prestigious event since Braden Thornberry in 2018.
La Sasso has had a stellar sophomore year as he has been Ole Miss' best individual in six out of eight tournaments this regular season. La Sasso holds a 69.25 stroke average through 24 rounds, which leads Ole Miss and the Southeastern Conference. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native has successfully finished inside the top 20 in all events this regular season for Ole Miss, four of those being inside the top-3.
During his Ole Miss debut at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, La Sasso began the season with a bang and secured a career-low 54-hole score of 200 (-10), including a career-low round of 63 to earn a tied-for 2nd finish.
The Raleigh, North Carolina, native is not a stranger to being nationally recognized as La Sasso was named to this season's spring watch list for the Ben Hogan Award and Fred Haskins Award. La Sasso is currently ranked as the No. 4 golfer in the nation based on most recent Clippd Golf rankings.
Rebel women's golfer Caitlyn Macnab was also invited to participate in the 2024 Palmer Cup, competing for Team International. Ole Miss is one of only seven schools in the nation to have both a male and female golfer appear in the event.
The 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup is set to run July 5-7 at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland. Golf Channel coverage of the tournament is still to be announced.
United States team selections were Zoe Campos (UCLA), Luke Clanton (Florida State), Maisie Filler (Florida), David Ford (North Carolina), Megha Ganne (Stanford), Ian Gilligan (Florida), Melanie Green (USF), Ben James (Virginia), Jackson Koivun (Auburn), Rachel Kuehn (Wake Forest), Michael La Sasso (Ole Miss), Jack Lundin (Missouri), Anna Morgan (Furman), Farah O'Keefe (Texas), Catherine Park (Southern California), Kiara Romero (Oregon), Amanda Sambach (Virginia), Gordon Sargent (Vanderbilt), Preston Summerhays (Arizona State), and Brendan Valdes (Auburn).
