Men’s Golf Wraps up Day One of the Mason Rudolph Championship Tied for Fourth

4/5/2024 | Men's Golf

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Following the first day of action from the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends South Course, Ole Miss men's golf wrapped up its first 18 holes with three Rebels in the top-10 and tied for fourth  as a team by firing off a round of 285 (+1).

"Today certainly wasn't our best day. We looked a little rusty from our time since our last tournament and got exposed on this course," said head coach Chris Malloy. "We need to regroup and be a little more prepared to make a run over the next 2 rounds."

Leading the field with a total of 17 birdies, Ole Miss has four Rebels in the top-20 through one day of competition. The Rebels have the opportunity to move up the board tomorrow, sitting just three strokes back of second place.

Ranked as the No. 2 men's golfer nationally, sophomore Michael La Sasso continued his consistent play with a round at 70 to shoot 1-under. La Sasso looks to pace the Rebels for the seventh tournament in-a-row this year as he remains tied for eighth.

Topping his stroke average on the season, sophomore Tom Fischer chipped in four birdies during his day to finish 1-under. Tied in eighth place, Fischer is in the hunt for his second top-10 finish of the year.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Patton Samuels fired off a round at 70 to also go 1-under on the day. Shooting Ole Miss' lone eagle of the day, Samuels also added three birdies as he also sits tied at No. 8.

Starting off the day with a bogey-free front-nine, junior Kye Meeks concluded his first round even at 70 (E) and remains tied for 15th.

Firing two birdies each on the front and the back nine, sophomore Cameron Tankersley wrapped his first round by going 3-over. Tankersley sits tied for 41st, looking to move up the leaderboard on Saturday.

Rounding out the Rebels, senior Tim Tillmans rounded out the Rebels, shooting 6-over to tie for 66th place.

Ole Miss returns to the course tomorrow (April 6) for its second round of play, teeing off at 10:25 a.m. CT, teeing off in 10 minute increments.
