5/19/2024 | Men's Tennis

STILLWATER, Okla. - Ole Miss men's tennis senior Nikola Slavic is prepared to participate in the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships singles draw, which is set to run from May 20-25 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Making his third career singles placement in the postseason, Slavic received an at-large bid to participate in the event at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The Stockholm, Sweden, native will compete against UT Arlington's Joan Torres Espinosa in the round of 64, Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. CT.

SENIOR YEAR IN REVIEW
The senior capped off his fifth and final year as a Rebel in true veteran fashion. Slavic saw a very successful start to his last campaign at Ole Miss as he was named the SEC/Big Ten Challenge's Most Outstanding Player in the fall. He also advanced to the ITA All-American Championships with doubles partner, Lukas Engelhardt, after earning a spot as an ITA Southern Region Doubles Finalist.

Slavic concluded the 2024 dual season with a 19-8 overall singles record and a 14-6 record in dual matchups. The Stockholm, Sweden, native led the Rebels in ranked singles wins with four and three ranked doubles victories on the year. The senior sensation led the way for the Rebels competing on court one in both singles and doubles throughout his closing season.

Most recently, Slavic was named to the All-SEC First Team Which marks the fourth consecutive year he has been recognized in the postseason conference honors. The senior is leaving behind a legacy as one of the best in Ole Miss history as he is only one of five Rebels to ever be recognized four times in the SEC postseason honors in program history.

REBELS IN THE RANKINGS
Slavic capped off the year ranked No. 45 in the country in singles according to ITA, as well as being a member of the No. 65 doubles team in the nation alongside Engelhardt. Slavic peaked at a doubles ranking of No. 8 in the country earlier this fall, while reaching the No. 34 slot in singles.

SWEDEN RAISED, ALL-AMERICAN MADE
After an All-SEC campaign, Slavic rose to the No. 1 singles spot on the Rebel roster and made the most of it, earning the No. 16 overall seed for the 2022 NCAA Singles Championships. The ITA awards All-America status to student-athletes that earn a top 16 seed in the NCAA singles championship, advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship, or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings.

In addition to his No. 16 seed at the 2022 NCAAs, Slavic closed his junior season as the No. 19-ranked singles player in the nation to become the 32nd All-American in program history. Slavic finished the 2021-22 season with a 22-13 overall singles record to close out his sensational junior year.
