Women’s Golf Named NCAA Regional Champions for First Time in Program History

BERMUDA RUN, N.C – The Ole Miss women's golf team came away with its first regional title in program history on Wednesday, as the Rebels rallied on the back nine to take home top honors at the NCAA Bermuda Run Regional at the Bermuda Run Country Club. The Rebels advance to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year and the fifth time as a program.
Entering the day in a tie for second place and six shots behind the lead, the Rebels rolled up their sleeves and shot their best round of the week and lowest 18-hole postseason score in program history of 279 (-9) to secure the title. The Rebels edged out the host team and defending national champions in Wake Forest and the Big 12 Champions in Texas to win the regional and become one of five teams to advance.
The Rebels also shot their best 54-hole postseason performance in program history, tying the overall tournament low score of 843 (-21) to cap off their week in Bermuda Run.
"We know we have the right girls in place here and the fight down the stretch was really impressive, super proud of each and every one of them," said head coach Kory Henkes. "It's a really tough field and to get a win here is quite impressive."
Making a whopping 21 birdies and 57 pars on the day, the Rebels proved to be an unstoppable force over the three rounds, finishing the tournament second in par-4 scoring (+8), par-5 scoring (-20) and birdies (55).
Much of the Rebel's momentum on the week can be credited to Caitlyn Macnab who earned her third career medalist finish and second of the year after tying for the individual championship, finishing her week at 12-under. Finishing her final round by shooting 67 (-5), four birdies on the back nine propelled Macnab and the Rebels to a trip to Carlsbad. Shooting 204 (-12) in the regional, Macnab clinched her fourth top five finish of the season and seventh of her career.
Two more Rebels joined Macnab with top 15 finishes, with Sophie Linder wrapping up her final round at 70 (-2) and her third top 20 finish of the season at tied for 13th at 212 (-4). Justine Fournand followed up with her own round of 70 (-2) to finish tied at 15th, going 214 (-2) on the week.
In the four spot for the Rebels, Nicole Gal shot an even 72 today to wrap up her regional in a tie for 24th after shooting 214 (+2) on the week. Rounding out the team, Natacha Husted wrapped up her week with a 73 (+10 on Wednesday to finish with a 221 (+5) and tie for 32nd.
The Rebels now head west for the 2024 NCAA Women's Golf Championships held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. from May 17-22. Ole Miss begins 54-holes of stroke play on the 17th. Following 54 holes, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals will advance for one additional round of stroke play to determine the final eight teams for match play. The final eight teams will be seeded for match play to determine the national champion.
