6/26/2024 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – John Saunders Jr. and Trey Washington had strong seasons on the back end of the Ole Miss football defense in 2023, and they'll return to the secondary in 2024 as top of the top 10 returning safeties in the Southeastern Conference.
Pro Football Focus published its top 10 returning safeties in the SEC based on grades from last season. Saunders ranked No. 6 at 79.1, just ahead of Washington at No. 7 with a 77.7 grade. Ole Miss is the only team with two of the top seven safeties.

Saunders and Washington will lead a talented defensive backfield for Ole Miss in 2024, which will work to replace NFL Draft pick Daijahn Anthony. Saunders spoke during spring ball about how coaches Pete Golding and Bryan Brown are doing just that.
