Ole Miss Track & Field Captures First Women’s 4x100-Meter NCAA Title

6/8/2024 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore – For the first time in program history, Ole Miss track & field stood atop the podium as national champions in the women's 4x100-meter relay at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Akilah Lewis, McKenzie Long, Gabrielle Matthews and Jahniya Bowers put down a scorching 42.34-second run to secure the first outdoor relay title in program history for the men or women.

Doing so, Ole Miss broke the status quo, becoming the first first-time champion in the women's 4x1 since South Carolina in 2002. Ole Miss is the first school not named Texas, USC or LSU to win it since Kentucky took the crown in 2017.
The Rebels entered the finals as the favorite after posting the field's fastest time in semifinals, a collegiate-best 42.22 seconds. The talented foursome once again rose to the challenge when it mattered most.

"We've been working really hard all year for this," Lewis said. "We knew the job wouldn't be complete until we won. So it's really satisfying to go here and run a good race and bring home the title."
