Men’s Golf Announces 2024-25 Schedule
8/19/2024 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. – Entering his 11th season at the helm of the men's golf program, Chris Malloy announced the 2024-25 schedule on Monday. Malloy and company will touch the four corners of the U.S. including two international destinations with a 10-tournament slate. The regular season commences with four fall tournaments followed by six in the spring leading up to postseason play.
"We are excited to get our season started and compete amongst the best competition in the country, Malloy said. "Our ultimate goals are to win the SEC and a National Championship. In order to prepare, we need to play the best courses and best teams, and I believe this schedule accomplishes both."
The Rebels enter 2024 coming off one of the best seasons in program history. The team secured the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional of the NCAA tournament, marking the highest seed given in program history. The previous record was a No. 4 seed two seasons ago at the 2023 Norman Regional. Last season's NCAA tournament berth marked the seventh straight under Malloy and the 16th overall in team history.
The team finished the 2023 regular season with seven top-five finishes, 16 individual top-10 finishes, and a team victory at the Seminole Intercollegiate down in Tallahassee. The Rebels carded 20 rounds under par on the season, including a 262-round score on the final day of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The 262 score of (-18) set the new lowest single-round score in program history. It was previously set by the 2022-23 team which shot 268 (-10) at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview.
The fall slate will kick off with the Rebels returning to the Volunteer state for the Visit Knoxville Collegiate (Sept. 6-8). Ole Miss finished second in last year's inaugural event capping off the tournament with the program record (-18) final round finish. Junior Michael La Sasso finished T2 at the event including a final round 63 where he shot seven-under on the day. Following Rocky Top, the Rebels will head to San Antonio for the Valero Texas Intercollegiate (Sept. 21-23). It will be the first trip back to the Lone Star state for Malloy and company since the Rebels came away victorious at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston back in 2023.
The road will then take the Rebels to the northeast where they will compete in the Hamptons Intercollegiate (Oct. 7-8) at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton. Rounding out the fall Ole Miss will collaborate with Mississippi State and Southern Miss' golf teams to host the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 19-21) at the Fallen Oak course in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Rebels finished solo second as a team with three players finishing inside the top 10.
The spring will open in Rio Grande at the Puerto Rico Intercollegiate (Feb. 10-12) where the Rebels have competed six of the last eight seasons. The team score of 30-under par was the lowest versus-par finish Ole Miss tallied last season. Sticking to the tropics, Ole Miss will head to the Cabo Collegiate (March 2-4) at the Twin Dolphin Club. All-American La Sasso had his best finish of the year in Cabo, finishing solo second with a score of nine-under.
Ole Miss will return to the U.S. and compete in the Pauma Valley Invitational (March 17-18) in San Diego, California. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by Loyola Marymount. The April calendar will begin in the Music City at the Mason Rudolph Championship (April 4-6) at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Rebels finished with another solo second place with Cameron Tankersley securing his best individual finish of the year at T3. The junior carded back-to-back rounds in the 60's to finish five-under.
Regular season play will conclude at the Mossy Oak Collegiate (April 14-15) in West Point, Mississippi, where the Rebels finished solo second as a team last spring shooting 12-under. Tankersley finished solo sixth with a score of six under. Following play at Mossy Oak, the Rebels will prepare for postseason play at the SEC Championship (April 23-27) in Sea Island, Georgia.
Ole Miss aims to have a resume that will secure a berth to their eighth straight NCAA Regional. Regional play is set to take place (May 12-14) with finals set for (May 23-28) in Carlsbad, California.
