Men’s Golf Lights It Up on Back Nine in Day One at the Valero Texas Collegiate

9/21/2024 | Men's Golf

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Following an early start this morning on the front nine, Ole Miss men's golf flipped a switch on the back nine at the Valero Texas Collegiate to end round one at 15-under and in second overall as a team from the TPC Oaks Course. The Rebels lead the field through the first day of action with a total of 27 birdies.

"A good start for our guys today. I was very impressed that it wasn't just one or two guys carrying us," said head coach Chris Malloy. "It was a total team effort. We need that same type of consistency the next two days."

Competing against some of the nation's best om going up against three schools ranked in the top-five of most major polls, the Rebels have put themselves in excellent position heading into day two of the event.

With two birdies on the front nine, Cohen Trolio found himself in a groove on his final nine holes of the day with six birdies. Capping off his round with five consecutive birdies, Trolio brought his total to eight on the day. In his fourth round of action for the Rebels, he ended his round at 6-under and sits tied for second place.

Firing off Ole Miss' lone eagle of the day, Tom Fischer pushed himself on the back nine with two birdies to push himself to 3-under through the first round. Joining him at 3-under, Kye Meeks fired off four birdies on the final nine to put himself in a prime position. Cameron Tankersley playing a bogey free back nine, also allowed him to finish at 3-under. The trio sits tied for ninth.

Chipping in back-to-back birdies to finish his first 18, Michael La Sasso rounded out all five Rebels with a day at 1-under and remains tied for 23rd.

Competing as an individual, Collins Trolio finished his day at 2-over.
