Men’s Golf Remains Hot in Texas, Leads at the Valero Texas Collegiate
9/22/2024 | Men's Golf
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Taking off right where they finished yesterday, Ole Miss men's golf remained hot at the Valero Texas Collegiate, carding a day of 8-under as a team to hold a narrow one stroke lead for first at 23-under. Playing a clean back nine, Michael La Sasso paced the Rebels by going 6-under.
"Really good day by our guys again. Anytime you are the low team round of the day in a field like this, you know that you're doing a good job," said head coach Chris Malloy. "However we need to do a better job of finishing our rounds tomorrow to have a chance to win. I know that this group is ready to compete."
La Sasso continued the Rebel streak of strong play under-par, with four birdies before the turn. Finishing his day with a clean final nine holes and seven birdies, he currently is 8-under on the weekend and tied for second overall.
With a bogey-free first 13 holes, Cohen Trolio remained just as hot with a round of 2-under. Matching the pace of La Sasso, the older Trolio also sits tied for second at 8-under as well.
Responding to the challenging course, Cameron Tankersley battled his way through the day and made up ground with five birdies to shoot 2-under on Sunday. He joins his teammates in the top-10, tied for sixth overall at 5-under.
Kye Meeks went bogey-free on the front nine, yet despite an up and down last nine holes, he remains under-par at 1-under and tied for 22nd.
Shooting 5-over on the day, Tom Fischer heads into the final round tied for 48th and at 2-over.
Continuing as an individual, Collins Trolio shot 2-over and is tied for 60th at 4-over.
The Rebels are back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Valero Texas Collegiate and look to keep going low in hopes of their first tournament title of the year.
