Macnab Powers Women’s Golf to 11-Stroke Lead at Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Led by the record-breaking performance from Caitlyn Macnab, Ole Miss women's golf holds a dominating 11-stroke lead after two rounds at the Mary Fossum Invitational after shooting 13-under on Sunday. 
 
The Rebels opened up the morning with their best showing this season, tallying a first round scorecard of 274 (-14). Directly after, Ole Miss went 1-over in the second round to bring its total score of the day to 563 (-13). The Rebels were an unstoppable force at the Forest Akers Golf Course, ranking first in par-4 scoring (-5), par-5 scoring (-7), and birdies (39). 
 
Macnab continues to etch her name into the record books after shooting a flawless first round that included seven birdies and one eagle. Her career-best 18-hole score of 63 (-9) was a course-low, tournament-low and the second lowest round in program history. 
 
Later that afternoon, the Johannesburg, South Africa, native tallied a second-round score of 73 (+1) to bring her to 8-under on the day and secure her the spot as the sole leader with a 3-stroke lead heading into the final round. Macnab leads the field in par-3 scoring (-3), par-5 scoring (-4) and birdies (10) as she looks to secure her fourth career medalist finish.  
 
Not far behind was Nicole Gal who shot her career-low 18-hole score in the first round, tallying a 68 (-4) after a flawless front nine with four birdies. In the second round, the junior strung together a score of 73 (+1) to bring her total on the day to 141 (-3) and see her into a tie for third. Gal ranked second amongst the field in par-5 scoring (-3) and only trails teammates, Macnab and Filippa Sundquist, in birdies (9). 
 
Along with Macnab and Gal, Sophie Linder also sits in the top 10, as she shot round scores of 74 (+2) and 68 (-4). The sophomore notched the best second round score for the Rebels after making five birdies and completing a perfect back nine. Linder found success on the par-4 holes, shooting 5-under to lead the field through two rounds.
 
Filippa Sundquist wrapped up the first day in East Lansing by finishing tied for 13th on the individual leaderboard. Racking up the most birdies in the field with ten and holding the second-best par-4 scoring (-3), the Kullavik, Sweden, native earned her career-low 18-hole score of 70 (-2) followed by a 75 (+4) in the second round to go 1-over on the day.
 
Kajsalotta Svarvar rounded out the lineup for the Rebels, notching first and second round scores of 73 (+1) and 75 (+3), respectively. Shooting 4-over, the freshman will be tied for 24th heading into the final day of play.
 
Competing individually for Ole Miss was Larissa Carrillo who strung together a two round score of 152 (+8) to finish the day tied for 47th. 
 
The Rebels are set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT on Monday for the final round in East Lansing as they search for their first medalist finish this season.
