Men’s Tennis Earns Two Victories Over Eastern Kentucky to Open 2025 Spring Campaign

OXFORD, Miss - The Ole Miss men's tennis team opened their 2025 spring season on Monday against Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader event at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
Dakotah Bobo had a stellar debut in the Rebels' opening pair of matches, notching two singles wins along with one doubles victory. Ole Miss was also dominant in all of its singles matches, winning all seven in straight sets against EKU.

The Rebels came out hot, securing the doubles point to get on the board early in the day against the Colonels. Gordon Whitwell and Isac Strömberg earned a dominant 6-2 win over Eastern Kentucky's duo of Adrian Contreras and Ryan Kitchin to notch the Rebels' first win of their spring season.
The junior duo of Noah Schlagenhauf and Bobo fought hard against EKU's Fernando Bulnes and Mario Monclus Martin, getting the job done for the Rebels by earning a gritty, 6-7 (7-3), win over their competitors to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In singles, Bobo faced off against Eastern Kentucky's Christian Cantos Siemers on court five for the Rebels. The Lafayette, Louisiana native let up no gas after doubles and earned the first singles point on the day by defeating Christian Siemers, 6-2, 6-0. Strömberg squared off against Contreras, coming out victorious over Eastern Kentucky's student-athlete, 6-3, 6-1, putting the Rebels up 3-0.
Matthieu Chambonniere made his debut in the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center, one to remember. The freshman defeated his opponent Monclus Martin, 6-3, 6-1, to secure the fourth and final point for the Rebels.
Benjamin Martin, Schlagenhauf, and Whitwell each secured a first set win, but ultimately did not finish their matches. This morning's win over the Colonels marks the Rebels' first team victory of the 2024-25 season.

After a dominant morning match, the Rebels looked to find more success in the afternoon against the Colonels.
Ole Miss stayed competitive in all three double matchups, but ultimately fell short and dropped the doubles point to Eastern Kentucky, heading into singles down by one, but ready to mount the comeback.
Freshman, Martin, got the momentum rolling for the Rebels earning an electric straight set, 6-3, 6-1, win over EKU's Siemers to put Ole Miss on the board.
Schlagenhauf played against Eastern Kentucky's Contreras and dominated in true veteran fashion, notching a 6-1, 6-2, straight set win, which put the Rebels up 2-1 over the Colonels.
Whitwell showed seasoned poise against his opponent Darko Kolevski. The Oxford, Mississippi, native, stayed persistent on court five and defeated Kolevski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to add another point to the board for Ole Miss and to notch his first singles win of his junior year.
Bobo had another dominant outing on the singles courts, as he squared off against Eastern Kentucky's Navarro. Bobo clinched the Rebels' fourth and final point of the day after defeating Navarro, 6-3, 6-4.
Chambonniere and Stromberg stayed diligent throughout each of their respective matches and secured a set win, but left their matches unfinished due to playing clinch.
The Rebels will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 13 for their first road test at Memphis. Live scoring and updates will be available on the schedule page.
