CAUGHT A TIGER BY ITS TOE
Ole Miss traveled to Memphis last week for their first road test and secured a gritty 4-3 win. Despite falling behind early in doubles, the Rebels remained persistent to earn four singles victories en route to toppling the Tigers.
Down two after losing the doubles point and a singles match, Dakotah Bobo, Isac Strömberg and Matthieu Chambonniere all captured victories in their singles matchup tying the match 3-3, which left the match point to be decided on court three where Loan Lestir was making his collegiate dual match debut.
Battling in the third set following a first set win and a close tiebreaker in the second, the freshman didn't let the pressure affect him as he pulled out a gutsy, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, victory to clinch the match for Ole Miss and to keep the Rebels record untouched.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Coming off of a clutch singles victory against Memphis last week, Loan Lestir was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This accolade marked Lestir's first SEC honor in his young collegiate career and the first of the season for any Ole Miss tennis player.
The Lille, France, native is the first Rebel to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Isac Strömberg won it during the 2022-23 season. Additionally, it marks the 15th instance in program history that a Rebel has secured the first-year recognition.
TEAM PROFILE: TULANE
Mark Booras is in his 14th season at the helm of the Green Waves men's tennis program. Booras has led the Green Waves to six NCAA Tournament appearances and an overall record of 178-141-1 record throughout his time in New Orleans. Tulane is led by No. 101 ranked senior Luka Petrovic. Petrovic posted a 13-13 overall record in singles and a 9-11 record in doubles in the 2024 fall season and also earned two singles wins against ranked opponents.
TEAM PROFILE: GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Andrew Goodwin is in his second season at the reins for Georgia Southern. Goodwin had a memorable debut season in Statesboro as Georgia Southern emerged as regular season champions in the Sun Belt Conference, earning the program's first regular season title. The Eagles are led on the singles court by No. 84 ranked Dimitris Paliouras. Paliouras teams up with Pol De Castillo on the doubles court to make up the No. 54 ranked doubles duo.
TEAM PROFILE: SOUTH ALABAMA
