Volleyball Drops Battle with No. 9 Texas A&M
10/26/2025 | Volleyball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball program tested the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies, but the visitors emerged victorious, as the Rebels fell 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
Gabi Placide paced the Rebels (10-11, 2-8 SEC) offense once again, tallying 12 kills and six digs. Keirstyn Carlton also shined with seven kills on .778 hitting and three blocks. Logan Lednicky led all players with 16 kills to lead the Aggies (17-3, 9-1 SEC) offense.
The Rebels came out of the gate on fire, opening up a 9-3 lead behind two service aces from Bella Bonanno and a pair of kills from Shayla Meyer. However, the lead was erased quickly by the visitors, who tied the match at 11-11 and would take a lead as high as 21-16. Placide helped pull the Rebels back in the set with three kills to save one set point and make it 24-23, but Lednicky was able to secure the second set point and give the Aggies a 25-23 win.
The Rebel offense came out scorching in the second set, hitting a collective .423 in the frame with only one error. Placide, Meyer and Carlton all factored in the offensive attack, while the Rebels took advantage of Aggie service errors to build a 13-8 lead. The lead expanded to 19-13, as Aggie errors piled up, but once again, the visitors had a response. An 8-1 run by Texas A&M would give them a 21-20 lead in a matter of moments. More strong serving by Bonanno allowed the Rebels to gain some ground right away, with Carlton and Meyer tallying kills and retaking a 23-21 advantage. However, four straight points from Texas A&M doomed the Rebels, falling 25-23.
Ole Miss would not go away in the third set, as Placide tallied three more kills and the Rebels picked up some strong blocking to remain tied at 11-11. However, the Aggies delivered a knockout blow, going on a 9-0 run from there. Melia Johnson added a pair of kills late in the set, but Texas A&M emerged with a 25-14 victory.
The Rebels wrap up a three-match home swing by hosting Alabama on Friday, Oct. 31 for a 6 p.m. CT start. The Rebels will celebrate senior day and the match will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
