Rifle Strikes Gold Against UTEP for Season-Opening Win

10/4/2025 | Rifle

EL PASO, Texas – No. 6 Ole Miss rifle cruised past No. 15 UTEP in its season opener, 4735-4668, on Saturday morning, behind a dominant all-around performance.

Ole Miss' (1-0, 1-0 PRC) 4735 aggregate score is tied for the fifth-highest mark in program history. A Rebel held the top four spots on the individual scoring ranking for the day.

Ole Miss left little doubt in the minds of spectators after smallbore, outscoring UTEP (0-1, 0-1 PRC) 2352-2306. The Rebel's score fell just short of a program top 10 ranking as the top four counter scores placed above 583.

The story was much the same in air rifle, with Ole Miss possessing a noticeably stronger lineup. The Rebels scored 2383 as a team, which ties the third-highest air rifle score in program history. Ole Miss' top two scorers, Audrey Gogniat and Gracie Dinh, both reached 598 and earned the gold and silver medal in the event for their efforts.

Gogniat picked up where she left off last season, firing an 1192 aggregate score to earn the top individual spot. Gogniat had 55-straight bullseyes in air rifle, closing in on her third career perfect score, but fell short on shot Nos. 56 and 59 for a 598 finish.

Dinh set a career-high in air rifle shortly after Gogniat completed her time on the line. Dinh's 598 and 53 center shots earned her the silver medal in the event. Her previous career-high was 597, which she hit three times in her freshman campaign.

Jordan de Jesus and Regan Diamond provided the depth pieces for the Rebels, scoring 1182 and 1176, respectively. For de Jesus, her aggregate score tied a career high. Jadyn Morgan made her collegiate debut as a counter in both events, finish with an 1160 aggregate.

The match began with smallbore.

Despite an early lead from the Miners following the kneeling position, the Rebels jumped in front and never looked back. Gogniat, Dinh and de Jesus kept Ole Miss solid in the second position of smallbore. The sophomore trio fired their first respective perfect prone scores of the season to keep their projected smallbore score high.

Gogniat maintained the momentum from prone into standing, shooting a 199 for a 594 finish. It's her second time reaching that score in the event, the last time doing so was in her first collegiate appearance in a four-team tournament in Fairbanks, Alaska. When she did it the first time, it tied all-time Rebel Lea Horvath's program record. Gogniat has since surpassed that mark three times in her career.

De Jesus and Dinh followed in finishing, scoring 588 and 587, respectively. Diamond rounded out the smallbore scoring with a 583 to fashion Ole Miss' smallbore tally at 2352. All four Rebels were in the top four scoring of the event.

Afterward, all five Rebel counters dominated in air rifle, with the top four equating to 2383. The top four scorers from Ole Miss each had a number at or higher than 593. Gogniat, who finished the day with 100 center shots, solidified her first aggregate gold medal of the season with her effort.

The Rebels are back in action after two weeks off, where they'll face Murray State at home on Oct. 25, with the start time to be set at a later date.
