Rifle Prevents a Murray State Comeback for Gutsy Win
10/25/2025 | Rifle
OXFORD, Miss. – No. 5 Ole Miss rifle narrowly edged out No. 11 Murray State, 4717-4716, on Saturday morning at the Ole Miss Rifle Range.
The Rebels (2-0) leaned on the backs of their dynamic sophomore trio of Audrey Gogniat, Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus to outlast the Racers (1-1) comeback in air rifle. De Jesus, who was the final Rebel counter on the line, fired a 10.3 on her last shot to give her 593 in the event, and effectively gave Ole Miss the one-point victory.
Gogniat once again paced the entire field in scoring, shooting 594 in smallbore and 599 in air rifle for a season-high 1193 aggregate. Dinh followed suit in the first relay to finish second overall with an 1185 aggregate, tying her career and season high.
Ole Miss has now won five of its last six bouts against Murray State, dating back to 2021.
The match began with smallbore.
Gogniat and Dinh came out on fire to begin the morning, with each comprising scores of at least 396 through the first two positions. Gogniat had her second perfect score in prone of the season, making her the only Rebel with two perfect position marks in the young season.
Gogniat finished the discipline with a 594, tying her score from the season opener at UTEP, to claim the top individual score on the leaderboard. Dinh followed suit with a 590, setting a season high by three points as she finished second in scoring.
Regan Diamond followed the top two with a 582 score, good enough for sixth on the individual leaderboard at the conclusion of the first relay. Susan Carter rounded out the scoring with a 578 score. The Rebels concluded smallbore with a 2344 team score and led the Racers by seven points entering air rifle.
The match continued with air rifle after a brief intermission.
The Racers made the match tight during air rifle, claiming a 2379 mark as a team. That mark was six points better than Ole Miss' overall, putting them exactly at a nine-point aggregate lead, and it came down to de Jesus' final shot of the morning.
Once again setting the tone for Ole Miss, Gogniat kicked off the discipline with 32 consecutive bullseyes. After losing a chance at perfection on the 33rd shot, Gogniat rebounded by converting on the remaining shots for a 599 finish. It's a season-high for the sophomore, who recorded an 1193 aggregate for the day.
Following Gogniat was Dinh and de Jesus, who finished with scores of 595 and 593, respectively. De Jesus' clutch final shot gave Ole Miss the victory. Kayla Riewe, making her first appearance as a counter this season, finished with a 586 in the event, as Diamond rounded out the counter scoring with a 585.
The second relay of the day featured four Rebels competing for additional reps. Among the quartet was Savannah Criddle, who made her collegiate debut. The freshman out of Marysville, California, fired a 575 in smallbore and a 586 in air rifle for a 1161 aggregate.
Gretchen Schleinkofer led the second relay with an 1165 finish in aggregate scoring, while Claudia Muzik had an impressive 589 in air rifle to finish top 10 overall in the event on the day.
Ole Miss is back in Oxford next week as it faces No. 3 Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 8, with the start time set for 9 a.m. CT.
