Cross Country in Search of National Berths at NCAA South Regional
11/13/2025 | Cross Country
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country will both look to keep their seasons going with tickets to the national meet at this Friday's NCAA South Regional, hosted by North Alabama at the John Hunt Cross Country Course. Competition begins with the women's 6K at 8:30 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 10K at 9:30 a.m. CT.
The key prize for teams running in the nine NCAA Regional meets across the United States on Friday morning will be the top-two automatic qualifier spots to the national championship, which this year will be hosted by Missouri on Nov. 22.
An additional 14 at-large teams and a variable number of additional individuals not attached to a qualified team are chosen through a national selection process. The NCAA Selection Show is set for Sat., Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. The top-25 finishers at each regional earn All-Region honors.
The Rebel women will have their work cut out for them to start the morning in the 6K race, squaring off against most of the SEC for the two automatic bids to nationals – including SEC Champions No. 3 Florida, as well as No. 15 Alabama and a Tennessee squad currently receiving votes in the national poll.
The senior duo of Beth Arentz and Sophie Baumann will look to lead the Rebel pack once again, as they have throughout the 2025 season. Baumann was Ole Miss' top-finisher at the conference meet in 41st place, while Arentz led the way in two other meets for the Rebels – including with a career-best 20:03.0 in the 6K at Mizzou's Gans Creek Classic on Sept. 26.
Baumann is the lone All-Region returner from Ole Miss' 2024 squad after finishing 23rd in Tallahassee last November. Arentz wasn't far off either, finishing 27th overall at the regional meet last fall.
Other Rebel women set to run on Friday morning are: freshman Madison Archdale, freshman Natalie Duggan, sophomore Ella Johnson, junior Adie Luna, freshman Addy Mitchell and freshman Leah Penick.
The Rebel men will be looking to book a return trip to NCAAs, but the path won't be easy. Ole Miss currently ranks fifth in a talented South Region that includes No. 9 Alabama and No. 19 Georgia – the top-two teams at the SEC Championships two weeks ago.
Junior Kidus Misgina will be key to Ole Miss punching its national ticket. The first-team All-SEC member finished sixth in his first career SEC Championships meet last time out, and he has been the low stick in each of his races for the Rebels this season – including a 39-second 8K best of 22:51.8 in his debut at Gans Creek.
At Trinidad State in 2023, Misgina was the national bronze medalist at the NJCAA Championships, and this past spring on the track for Ole Miss he dismantled the school 10K record by 24 seconds at 28:20.19.
Senior Toby Gillen is Ole Miss' lone All-Region returner on the men's side, having finished sixth in 2024 to push the Rebel men to a second-place team finish at a ticket to the national meet. Gillen will be looking to extend his collegiate career by one more meet on Friday, as this is his final cross country season and he concluded a superb All-American track career with the Rebels this past spring.
Other Rebel men on the roster Friday will be: sophomore Zack Gilbertson, freshman Owen Kelley, senior Marco Perez, senior Gabe Scales, freshman John Shoemaker and senior Evan Thornton-Sherman.
Fans can watch a live stream on ESPN+ beginning with the women's 6K at 8:30 a.m. CT, or follow along with the live results courtesy of Delta Timing.
