Rifle Stuns No. 2 TCU in Fort Worth in Historic Fashion

11/16/2025 | Rifle

FORT WORTH, Texas – A historic effort in both smallbore and air rifle led No. 9 Ole Miss rifle to victory over No. 2 TCU, 4744-4739, in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sunday morning.

The Rebels (3-1, 2-1 PRC) scored the second highest aggregate mark in program history and the most since the 2023 season. To do so, the Rebels had the fifth-highest smallbore and second-highest air rifle scores program history. Two Rebels, Gracie Dinhand Jordan de Jesus, set individual career-high marks in air rifle and aggregate scoring, while Audrey Gogniat remained a staple of high-scoring consistency. Regan Diamond also tied her career high aggregate score.

Ole Miss began the day by firing their highest smallbore score of the season with a 2359 team mark, the fifth highest in program history. It's the most points Ole miss has scored in the event since shattering the program record at the PRC Tournament last season. However, TCU's (2-2, 1-2) would have a two-point advantage over Ole Miss entering air rifle.

It was in the second event of the morning where Ole miss truly shined, outscoring TCU by seven points. Ole Miss finished the event with 2385 team score, the second best in program history. All four counters finished with at least 594 points in the event. The Rebels finished just three points shy of tying the program record in the event, set in 2022 against John Jay College.

On top of her air rifle personal best, Dinh tied a career high in smallbore with a 591-point effort, giving her a career-high 1190 aggregate. This shatters her previous best of 1185, and she finished the day as the top overall shooter in the field for the second consecutive match and fourth time in her career.

Overall, three Rebels finished inside the top six of the individual leaderboard, but it was Regan Diamond who rounded out the scoring with an eighth-place finish and an 1182 aggregate.

The Rebels opened the days event shooting well, with high quality performances from Gogniat and Dinh. The pair finished first and third, respectively, on the individual smallbore leaderboard while leading the Rebels to their fifth highest smallbore score in program history. Gogniat has yet to finish below 590 in smallbore thus far this season.

Gogniat, returning to the team after missing last week's match due to competing at the ISSF World Championship in Cairo, Egypt, shot her third perfect prone score of the season. In her three appearances thus far, the sophomore sharpshooter is 60-for-60 in combined prone shots so far this season.

For Dinh, her career day began by never missing more than two bullseyes in the first two positions each. Diamond and de Jesus followed the two top scorers by finishing with 588 and 587 scores, respectively, putting the Rebels within striking distance of the Horned Frogs entering air rifle.

Ole Miss popped the top in air rifle, firing the second-best team score in program history with a 2385 mark. It's the most Ole Miss has scored in the event since 2023 and fell just three points shy of the program record set in 2022 against John Jay College, when the Rebels fired a 2388 score.

In air rifle, Dinh provided her best individual effort of her career thus far, finishing just one bullseye shy of a perfect 600 and finishing first overall in the event. Dinh fired a bullseye on her first 24 shots in the event, and after getting a 9 on her 25th shot, would go perfect from then on. With her steady progression from her freshman season to now, it's a matter of time before she becomes the third student-athlete to ever achieve perfection in air rifle, joining former teammate Lea Horvath and Gogniat.

De Jesus also found a consistent rhythm and quietly set her own personal best in the event with a 597. Previously, she had shot a 596 twice but broke through today against the Horned Frogs. Her effort landed her third on the leaderboard, behind Dinh and TCU's Mikole Hogan.

Gogniat and Regan Diamond both had exceptional outings for Ole Miss, finishing with 595 and 594 air rifle scores, respectively. Diamond has been showing steady improvement throughout the season after setting a career-high 590 smallbore score against Alaska Fairbanks last week, resulting in a tie for her career-high aggregate score of 1182 for the day. She began air rifle by hitting 20 consecutive 10's.

With all the momentum behind them, the Rebels will travel to face No. 1 Nebraska and No. 10 Air Force in a three-team tournament hosted by Nebraska next week. The following day, Ole Miss goes head-to-head with Air Force to cap the fall portion of the regular season. Smallbore sighters will begin at a time to be announced at a later date, with the matches taking place on Nov. 22-23.
