Women’s Basketball Scores 102 Points in Dominant Win over Longwood

11/24/2025 | Women's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. – A top-tier offensive effort guided No. 13/14 Ole Miss women’s basketball to an overriding 102-50 victory over Longwood on Monday evening at the SJB Pavilion.

The Rebels (5-0, 0-0 SEC) have dropped triple-digit scoring for the first time since Dec. 8, 2020, when they scored 104 against Alcorn State. It’s the second time under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin that Ole Miss has scored at least 100 points and the 36th time ever in program history. Ole Miss’ scoring outburst led them to a 5-0 start for the third time under McPhee-McCuin and 17th time ever.

Cotie McMahon was once again the headline, leading all players in both scoring and rebounding, with a season-high 29 points and nine rebounds. She fell just short of recording her third consecutive double-double, which would have made her the first Rebel since Madison Scott to do so in 2022. She guided the Rebels to their biggest victory of the season with a 52-point margin over the Lancers.

Christeen Iwuala also had a strong all-around evening, scoring 14 points and adding eight rebounds. The senior has been a different animal on the boards to start the season, having recorded less than seven rebounds only once in five games to start the season. She’s averaging nine rebounds per game and is top 10 in the country in per game averages.

Debreasha Powe and Kaitlin Peterson each had arguably their best outings as Rebels so far in the young season. Powe had a season best 13 points with five rebounds as Peterson dropped 12 points while swiping seven steals. For Peterson, she recorded the most steals by a Rebel since teammate Sira Thienou had nine last season against Mississippi State.

Ole Miss had an incredible night on the boards, with five players recording at least five rebounds in the game. Behind McMahon and Iwuala, Sira Thienou had six, and Powe and Jayla Murray each had five. The Rebels had a season-high 54 total rebounds, 22 more than the Lancers did.

Offensively, the Rebels gave up only 13 turnovers against one of the peskiest defensive teams in the country. Longwood entered the game forcing 29.8 turnovers per game while recording 19.3 steals per game. However, the Lancers had no answers for the Rebels efficient offense as Ole Miss only had 13 turnovers while allowing only six steals.

Ole Miss began strong defensively, holding Longwood scoreless for the first three minutes of the game and without a made field goal until almost six minutes in. On the opposite end of the court, McMahon began lighting up the Lancers with exciting layups and jump shots from all over the court. She scored 12 points in the quarter, the most by any Rebel in a quarter this season, with nine coming before the media timeout. Following her lead, the Rebels held a 24-16 advantage at the conclusion of quarter one.

The Rebels’ defense remained stout at the start of the second quarter, once again holding Longwood to just one made field goal in the first five minutes. Thienou electrified the crowd by converting a tough and-one layup, her first points of the game. Thienou’s layup came amid a dynamic scoring run which saw the Rebels score 16 unanswered points over the course of almost five minutes. That scoring run gave Ole Miss a 24-point halftime lead, its largest this season.

McMahon continued her scoring outburst in the third, immediately getting to the elbow for an easy jumper early in the quarter. Iwuala and Powe backed McMahon’s efforts, as both reached double-digit points in the quarter. Powe went 3-for-3 in the quarter which included a pair of threes. In total, the Rebels dropped 31 points on the Lancers in the third quarter, the most as a team in a single quarter this season. Ole Miss held a dominant 80-43 lead entering the final period of play.

With just 20 points to achieve history, Peterson had the best quarter of her season thus far. The senior scored seven points on a 3-for-3 shooting clip. She added three more steals so solidify her stellar defensive outing. Freshman Lauren Jacobs helped the Rebels cut the line to 100 points by draining a pair of threes, her first points of the day, to put the Rebels at 99. Latasha Lattimore made a free throw in the final three minutes to give the Rebels 100, as Peterson added one more layup to fashion the final score of 102-50.

Ole Miss is now set to celebrate Thanksgiving at Daytona Beach for the annual Coast 2 Coast Classic, where it will face Wisconsin on Nov. 28 and George Mason on Nov. 29. Tipoff for both games will be 3 p.m. CT, streaming on Baller TV.
