Men’s Tennis Sweeps Alcorn State in Doubleheader

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team welcomed Alcorn State to the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday, where the Rebels defeated the Braves 7-0 and 4-0 in the doubleheader event.
Ole Miss (8-1, 0-0 SEC) swept on the doubles and singles courts in both matchups against Alcorn State (3-8, 0-0 SWAC). Additionally, all Rebels won in straight sets in singles play on the day. These wins moved Ole Miss' overall record to 9-1 on the season, marking the best start since the 2021-22 season.
In the first match, the Rebels started off hot on the doubles court, with junior duo Dakotah Bobo and Marcel Kamrowski getting a dominant 6-0 win on court three.
Isac Strömberg and Kai Milburn kept the momentum going on court one, earning a 6-2 win over Alcorn State's pair of Emmauenl Cottle and Fabian Juarez to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.
Even though Milburn and Stromberg clinched the doubles point for the Rebels, the match was playing through, as Benjamin Martin and Matthieu Chambonniere snagged a 6-2 win on court two to capture the doubles sweep for the Rebels.
On the singles court, Bobo took a commanding lead early on court six and ultimately came out on top, 6-2, 6-0, over his opponent to add the second point of the day to the board for the Rebels. The junior transfer is a perfect 4-0 in dual singles matches during the spring season.
Martin captured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alcorn State's Fabian Juarez on court three to tally his ninth singles win of the season. As for Kamrowski, the junior dominated his opponent on court one to earn a 6-3, 6-1 win for the Rebels.
Freshman, Milburn made a statement on court five as well by securing a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alcorn State's student-athlete, Yangho Park.
Chambonniere squared off against the Brave's David Leon and earned a 6-1, 6-4 straight-set win. This marked the freshman's 16th singles win of the season, a Rebel-best in the 2024-25 season.
Stromberg rounded out the afternoon for Ole Miss, competing on court two against Alcorn State's Cottle. In a gritty match, the Rebel veteran came out victorious with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over his opponent to close out the first sweep for the Rebels.
In the second match of the day, the freshmen led the way on the doubles court. Milburn and Loan Lestir notched an impressive 6-0 win on court two over their competitors to start the match. The freshman duo of Chambonniere and Martin teamed up on court one to secure a dominant 6-1 win over Alcorn State's Kijac and Grime, which clinched the doubles point for the Rebels.
Ole Miss was once again dominant across the board in singles. Milburn let up no gas, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over his competitor. This win marked the Queenstown, New Zealand, native's fourth singles win of his collegiate career.
Oxford, Mississippi, native, Gordon Whitwell, squared off against the Brave's Jerry Thomas on court six. The junior stayed patient and tallied a superior 6-1, 6-0 win over his opponent to add the Rebel's second point to the board.
Lestir played on court two and proved his competitive nature, holding his opponent to zero games and earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory to clinch the second match for Ole Miss.
The Rebels will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12:00 p.m. to open SEC play on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
