Mackenzie Pickens Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Honors
2/24/2025 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – Following a standout week at the Rocket City Softball Showcase, Ole Miss softball's Mackenzie Pickens has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as the SEC announced on Monday.
A native of Flowery Branch, Ga., Pickens had a breakout weekend to lead the Rebels to a sweep of all four games at the Rocket City Softball Showcase. Pickens hit .600 (6-for-10) with a home run, a double and six RBI, while stealing two bases.
Her biggest game of the weekend came in the win over Louisiana Tech, as Pickens exploded for five RBI on a 3-for-3 day, falling just a triple short of the cycle. Her five RBI were the most by a Rebel this season and the most since Aynslie Furbush had six against Western Kentucky back on Apr. 14, 2024.
Pickens is now up to a .349 batting average on the young season, tallying two home runs, 14 RBI and four stolen bases, while striking out just once over 43 at-bats.
Pickens and the Rebels are back in action on Wednesday, hosting McNeese at 6 p.m. CT for the home opener at the new Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
