Track & Field’s Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan Finishes Fifth in NCAA Weight Throw Final

3/14/2025 | Track and Field

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Ole Miss track & field junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan scored national points for the Rebels yet again, taking fifth place in a stacked men's weight throw final at Day One of the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday night.

Robinson-O'Hagan – a now three-time watch list member for The Bowerman – entered the meet ranked fourth overall and as one of just three nationally to be attempting the weight throw and shot put double this weekend (his third consecutive indoor double). However, he was rewarded with the toughest NCAA weight final in collegiate history.

His first throw of 23.18m/76-00.75 briefly took the lead before getting pushed down to fifth at the break. In the fourth round, he launched one out near the 24-meter barrier that elicited an excited celebration, but a foul that stood up after review rendered it moot. He improved to 23.65m/77-07.25 in the fifth round, and in the sixth and final round leapt one spot to fifth place on a blast of 24.09m/79-00.50 – his third career 24-meter toss.

This marks Robinson-O'Hagan's third consecutive scoring performance in the weight throw in as many attempts, currently sitting at 14 career NCAA points in the event and a whopping 37 total in his overall career that has now saw him win nine All-America awards.

However, the depth of the competition in the weight throw has grown tremendously since his first foray as a freshman in 2023, with his third-place throw of 22.96m/75-4 from that year only taking seventh place in 2025. Robinson-O'Hagan was among six competitors to break 24 meters tonight – including a meet record 25.08m/82-03.50 from champion Daniel Reynolds of Wyoming – whereas in NCAA Division I meet history prior only nine competitors total had thrown beyond that distance at the national meet.

Robinson-O'Hagan and the rest of the Rebel delegation now turn their attention to the second and final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. Junior Arvesta Troupe will start things off at 11 a.m. CT in the men's high jump final, sophomore Akaoma Odeluga will follow at 12:45 p.m. CT in the women's shot put final, while Robinson-O'Hagan will close for Ole Miss in the men's shot put final at 4 p.m. CT.
