No. 17 Softball Rides Historic Offense in 20-11 Win at No. 23 Georgia
4/17/2025 | Softball
ATHENS, Ga. – A historic offensive performance powered the No. 17 Ole Miss softball program to a wild, 20-11 win at No. 23 Georgia on Thursday night at Jack Turner Stadium.
The 31 combined runs tied a Southeastern Conference single game record and were the most by the program in SEC play since 2019 at Mississippi State.
Lexie Brady led the way for the Rebels (32-11, 8-8 SEC), matching an Ole Miss single game record with six RBI, while hitting her 15th home run of the season, matching the program’s single season record held by DeDe Justice in 2003.
The Rebels launched two grand slams on the day, with one from Brady and the other coming from Ashton Lansdell. The Rebels also drew 12 walks against the Bulldogs (27-16, 5-13 SEC), tying an Ole Miss single game record last accomplished in 2017.
The scoring began early and often, as the Rebels loaded the bases with one out. Brady drove in the game’s first run on an RBI fielder’s choice, before back-to-back walks from Mackenzie Pickens and Lansdell drove in another run, making it 2-0.
The Bulldogs quickly responded, scoring two runs in the bottom the first inning, before striking for six in the bottom of the second to build an 8-2 advantage.
Nevertheless, the Rebels mounted what would become the largest comeback in SEC play under Jamie Trachsel, completely erasing the Bulldogs lead. Walks from Persy Llamas and Brady and a single from Pickens loaded the bases with no outs. For the second consecutive game, Lansdell delivered a clutch home run, blasting a grand slam to center field that hit the top of the wall and out to cut the lead to 8-6.
The Rebels weren’t done and promptly tied the game in the fourth inning. Aliyah Binford walked and Llamas teed off to center field on her sixth home run, tying the game at 8-8.
Now looking for the lead, the plate discipline of the Rebels shined and kickstarted a big inning. Taylor Malvin and Jaden Pone walked, before Binford hit a single that ultimately resulted in a throwing error to score Malvin and make it 9-8.
After a Llamas single re-loaded the bases, Brady did what she does best, crushing a grand slam to left center field, making it 13-8. The blast elevated her past 100 RBI in her career and put the Rebels firmly in control.
A two-run home run by Georgia helped give the hosts some life and cut the lead to 13-10, but the Rebels allowed them no closer, as Binford stepped into the circle to deliver a scoreless sixth inning.
Brady opened the seventh inning with a walk, followed by a single from Lansdell and a walk from Angelina DeLeon to load the bases. Ryan Starr drew a hit by pitch then Malvin singled to drive runs on back-to-back plays and extend the lead to 15-10. For Malvin, it marked a career-high four hit game.
The flood gates opened from there, as Pone singled to make it 16-10. Binford promptly cleared the bases with a three-run double, extending the lead to 19-10. For good measure, the Rebels batted around and gave Brady a chance to tie or break the single game RBI record, which she matched in the form of an RBI single, making it 20-10.
While Georgia hit a solo home run, Binford calmly finished off the win with a strikeout to secure the victory.
Ole Miss continues action against No. 23 Georgia with game two on Friday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
