5/12/2025 | Men's Golf
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 3 Ole Miss men's golf team sits in third after the opening round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. The Rebels posted (282, -6) led by senior Kye Meeks who opened his regional with a four-under 68.
Meeks would bogey number one but responded with six birdies over his next 13 holes. He birdied three of the four par 5s on the course, shooting 34 on both sides.
Meeks would drop a shot at the difficult par 4 16th but responded with back-to-back pars on 17 and 18. He made an incredible up-and-down on 18 after his second shot went long over the green. Meeks managed to scramble and found himself with a tricky four-footer which found the bottom of the cup to cap off his impressive opening day.
Michael La Sasso turned in his 21st under-par score of the season after an opening round of two-under 70. La Sasso utilized his length, birdieing two of the four par 5s.
La Sasso, who is currently ranked the No. 3 collegiate golfer by Clippd was paired alongside the No. 1 men's amateur in the world in Florida State's Luke Clanton. The trio was rounded out by San Diego State's Justin Hastings, who competed as an amateur at Augusta this past April in the 2025 Masters.
Cameron Tankersley and Tom Fischer both grinded out even par scores. Tankersley, who was two-over with four to play hung tough with birdies on two of his final three holes. Fischer battled all day and stayed composed despite putts not falling. He also birdied 18 to close out his round.
