Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan and Jake Dalton, SEC Outdoor 2025

Track & Field Earns Three Medals to Kick Off Day One of SEC Outdoor Championships

5/15/2025 | Track and Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ole Miss track & field junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan won his third consecutive SEC hammer title, while two other Rebels claimed silver medals on impressive performances of their own to give the Rebel men the lead at the close of Day One of the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships on Thursday.

The Bowerman watch list member got to work right away with a monstrous first throw of 75.72m/248-5 – the first of three straight 75-meter tosses that registers as a near four-foot PR that broke his own school record and now ranks him fourth in SEC history and 21st in collegiate history. This season, Robinson-O'Hagan currently ranks fifth in the NCAA and sixth in the United States.

Robinson-O'Hagan's hammer title today placed him in another section of the SEC record book, becoming only the third SEC men's athlete to win three consecutive hammer titles alongside LSU's Walter Henning (2009-11) and Georgia's Andras Haklits (2000-02). This is already the eighth career SEC title for Robinson-O'Hagan, who will also look to defend his SEC shot put title on Friday afternoon.

Senior Jake Dalton returned to the podium once again, finishing SEC runner-up for the second consecutive year. Dalton took the silver medal on a toss of 68.51m/224-9, and was followed by additional scorers Bryson Smith in fifth (67.64m/221-11) and Mason Hickel in eighth (65.22m/214-0; PR).

The 23 total hammer points scored by the Rebel squad ranks as the third-highest by any school since 2003, trailing 26 by Georgia in 2003 and the 2024 Ole Miss unit that notched 24 points. Since his arrival in 2023, the Rebel men have scored 57 total points in the men's hammer – 30 by Robinson-O'Hagan alone.

On the track to close the night, senior Toby Gillen found success of his own in a gutsy 10K race. Gillen – who hadn't run a 10K since 2022, and never before as a Rebel – went toe-to-toe with the three-time defending SEC Champion, Alabama's Victor Kiprop, and nearly came away with the win. Gillen fell just two seconds shy right at the line on a career-best 30:12.62 for the silver medal. Gillen's incredible performance proved crucial, tacking on eight more points for the Rebel men and solidifying their position in first place to close out Day One.

For the Rebel women, the sophomore duo of Skylar Soli and Akaoma Odeluga secured six total points in the women's hammer. Soli's six-foot PR of 64.39m/211-3 landed her in fourth and improved upon her spot in sixth in Ole Miss history, while Odeluga's heave of 60.00m/196-10 claimed eighth.

Elsewhere, Ole Miss received a solid performance from freshman Jordan Urrutia in his first career SEC 200-meter race. The Madison, Alabama native clocked a career-best 20.82 (+0.9) with a legal wind, which puts him into a tie for 10th in Ole Miss history.

Ole Miss track & field returns to action for Day Two on Friday, beginning with the women's long jump at noon CT. For more info and for details on how to follow along with the action at the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships, check out our meet preview HERE.
