Akaoma Odeluga Takes SEC Silver in Women’s Shot Put

5/16/2025 | Track and Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ole Miss track & field All-American sophomore Akaoma Odeluga claimed her second consecutive SEC medal in the shot put, this time a silver for the Rebel women.

Odeluga – the reigning World U20 champion who was a bronze medalist as a freshman outdoors last spring – found herself in a powerful SEC final that featured three women all above 18 meters. Odeluga's first attempt 18.63m/61-01.50 ended up as her best on the day.

Her performance today marks the sixth runner-up or better effort by the Rebel women in the SEC shot put outdoors – all since 10th-year head coach Connie Price-Smith and throws coach John Smith arrived in 2016.
