Toby Gillen Completes Improbable Comeback, Wins SEC 5K Title
5/17/2025 | Track and Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two nights ago, Ole Miss track & field All-American senior Toby Gillen took one of the best 10K runners in SEC history down to the wire, taking the silver medal. Saturday night, Gillen would not be denied the 5K crown, cruising on his final lap toward the conference title.
Gillen looked strong considering his superb effort just 48 hours earlier, running near the front of the pack with confidence all race long in a 5K final that was filled with collisions. But it was at the bell where Gillen turned on the jets to leave no doubt, crossing the line as the champion following a 58.18 final 400.
Gillen's victory is the fourth by a Rebel men's runner all-time in the 5K outdoors, the first since MJ Erb in 2017.
