Track & Field Topples Two School Records Amid Splendid Close to Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational

1/31/2026 | Track and Field

CLEMSON, S.C. – Ole Miss track & field took down two school records and received a bevy of superb performances to close out its two-day stay at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday.

All-American senior and three-time NCAA shot put champion Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan put the collegiate throwing world on notice yet again following a career performance. The Bowerman watch list member sent his third attempt of the day out a personal best 21.18m/69-6, a three-inch PR that improves upon his spot as the NCAA leader and moves him to No. 2 on both the U.S. and world lists for 2026.

Robinson-O'Hagan had an excellent all-around field series, with each of his five legal throws traveling at least 20.71m/67-11.50 and four going at least 68 feet. For reference, Robinson-O'Hagan entered as the national collegiate leader at his prior season-best 20.76m/68-01.50.

In addition to breaking his own school record yet again, Robinson-O'Hagan improved upon his spot at No. 20 in collegiate history and No. 2 in SEC history indoors. Additionally, Robinson-O'Hagan is closing in on becoming the first SEC thrower to ever break 70 feet indoors, as the SEC indoor record currently belongs to South Carolina's Josh Awotunde from 2018 (21.33m/69-11.75).

Sophomore Jordan Urrutia continued to prove himself as one of the best sprinters in school history, again resetting a long-standing Rebel record before running a powerful anchor leg on Ole Miss' 4x400-meter relay.

Urrutia dazzled in his first 200-meter dash of the season, finishing fourth overall at 20.89 to best Kendrick Triggs' 2002 record of 20.90. Urrutia and Triggs are the lone Rebels to ever break 21 seconds indoors, and this latest sub-21 effort joins Urrutia's overall PR 20.82 (+0.5) from last outdoor season at the SEC Championships. This season, Urrutia's 200-meter time currently slots him at No. 18 on the NCAA list.

Mere hours later, Urrutia and his 4x400-meter relay teammates Joshua Knox, Carson Turner and Cade Flatt again etched their names among the best to ever pass the stick at Ole Miss. The Rebels crossed the line in 3:08.61, just barely edged by Auburn (3:08.58) at the line for the win. Knox took it in 47.62, Turner in 47.46 and Flatt at 46.85, but it was again Urrutia who took the stick in fourth place and nearly willed the Rebels to victory with a 46.69 split.

That time ranks third in Ole Miss history indoors, a new season-best for the Rebels just ahead of their season-opening 3:08.85 by Knox, Wesley Todd, Flatt and Urrutia that now ranks fifth all-time. Today's time stands as the fastest at Ole Miss indoors since 2004, and today's quartet of Knox, Turner, Flatt and Urrutia are currently the best performers ever on a standard track size.

In the women's 200-meter dash, freshman Patchnalie Compere announced her presence with authority, finishing third at 23.39 in her first collegiate 200. That time ranks as the best ever by an Ole Miss freshman, currently sitting fourth on the all-time list indoors, as well as a new Haitian indoor national record (both of Compere's parents hail from Haiti). This season, that time currently ranks her 18th on the national descending lists.

Ole Miss received a pair of all-time performances from newcomers across both triple jump competitions as well on Saturday.

Junior transfer Sterling Scott had his best day yet as a Rebel, winning on his first leap of the day at 16.14m/52-11.50. That jump already ranks him fourth in Ole Miss history indoors and has him on the cusp of becoming only the fourth 53-footer in the Rebel record books. This season, Scott now ranks fourth among all American jumpers and eighth on the NCAA lists.

In the women's triple jump, freshman Bayli Major continued to impress, today finishing eighth on a new PR of 12.33m/40-05.50. That mark shoots her up to eighth on the Ole Miss indoor lists, and this year it ranks as the best among all Bahamians so far.

Senior Logan Kelley had a superb day in the men's pole vault, clearing a half-foot PR of 5.46m/17-11 to finish fourth in a stacked field. That height makes Kelley the second-best Rebel ever indoors, trailing only Olympian Sam Kendricks' 2014 record 5.69m/18-08.25, and this year Kelley currently ranks tied for 19th nationally.

The Rebel distance squads were out in full force for the first time this season and came away with several strong performances of their own.

Senior Aiden Britt opened his final season with the Rebels in spectacular fashion, winning the men's 3K at a four-second PR of 7:51.11 to move into third in Ole Miss history and 16th nationally this season. Junior Evan Thornton-Sherman was right behind him at 7:54.62, which ranks him ninth in school history and 32nd nationally this year.

Senior Beth Arentz did the same for her final season debut, winning the women's 3K at a massive 10-second improvement of 9:15.24 – fourth-best in school history.

Sophomore Max Armstrong led a pack of Rebels in the men's 800-meter on Saturday, finishing as the runner-up at an indoor PR of 1:48.79 that ranks him 11th in school history and 23rd nationally. Senior Chase Rose was third at a season-best 1:49.36, while Carson Turner (fifth, 1:50.04) and Cade Flatt (eighth, 1:51.61) also made the top-10.

Ole Miss track & field will head west to Albuquerque next week for the New Mexico Classic, which will run February 6-7.
