Softball Falls in Finale at No. 2 Texas
3/15/2026 | Softball
AUSTIN, Texas – The Ole Miss softball program dropped the finale of a three-game series at No. 2 Texas on Sunday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
The Rebels (19-11, 0-6 SEC) scored early but could not hold off the Longhorns (26-1, 6-0 SEC) offense, who pulled away in the second inning.
The Rebels struck quickly with some two-out magic against Texas starter Teagan Kavan. Persy Llamas got the inning started with a double, followed by a Madi George walk and Cassie Reasner infield single to load the bases.
Kennedy Bunker was next up and came through with single up the middle to make it 1-0. For good measure, Taylor Roman drew a bases loaded walk to extend the lead to 2-0.
However, the Longhorns caught life, scoring on an error in the first inning to cut the lead to one. In the second inning, Texas tacked on six runs and jumped ahead 7-2.
That lead would only increase for the hosts, who tacked on an additional eight runs in the third inning to pull away.
While the Longhorns extend the lead to as high as 15-2, the Rebels showed some late life. The Rebels loaded the bases with no outs, thanks to three straight singles from Emilee Boyer, Laylonna Applin and Mackenzie Pickens. Llamas then drove home a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 15-3. However, the Rebels could score no more and the game ended after five innings.
The Rebels head back home to open a five-game swing, beginning by hosting Louisiana Tech on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
