Track & Field Receives Powerful Performance from Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan in Outdoor Opener

3/20/2026 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss track & field star senior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan made a towering statement with his opening performance in the hammer, etching his name among the best Americans ever in the event at the first day of the Ole Miss Classic on Friday.

Less than a week after winning his fourth career NCAA shot put title, Robinson-O'Hagan stepped into the ring for his first hammer competition since last summer's U.S. Outdoor Championships and immediately declared his candidacy as a bonafide contender.

The 12-time All-American opened his final outdoor season at a near PR 75.67m/248-3 and followed with a second-round 75.46m/247-7 before unleashing an eye-opening 77.62m/254-8 in the third round that shattered both the facility and Ole Miss records.

That blast ranks as the best all-time this early into the collegiate season (March 20), and it makes Robinson-O'Hagan the second-best American-born collegian all-time behind Oregon's Ken Flax in 1986 (78.34m/257-0). Overall, Robinson-O'Hagan now ranks second in SEC history, 11th in collegiate history and 16th in American history, and for 2026 he currently leads all Americans and ranks eighth worldwide.

Today's performance also improves Robinson-O'Hagan's standing as the collegiate record holder in outdoor shot/hammer distance, with today's 77.62m and his outdoor shot PR of 20.88m moving his record now to 98.50m – making him the first collegian to break 98 meters.

Seniors Bryson Smith (67.16m/220-4) and Mason Hickel (65.53m/215-0) had solid openers of their own in second and third place, respectively.

In the women's hammer, five Rebels made the final – led by All-American Akaoma Odeluga in third place on her opener of 64.38m/211-2. Senior Nyah Edwards tossed a PR 59.17m/194-1 in her outdoor debut with the Rebels, ranking her 10th in Ole Miss history.

On the track, redshirt freshman Zion Lockette impressed in her outdoor collegiate debut, winning the women's 200-meter dash on an all-conditions PR 23.49 (+2.2) – which ranks her 11th on Ole Miss all-time list (which allows up to a 4.0 wind reading).

Freshman Myla Reed had an excellent outdoor open to her Rebel career as well, finishing as the runner-up at an overall PR and wind-legal 24.03 (+0.9).

Senior jumper Lizzie Hatton was fifth in the 200 at an all-conditions PR 24.33 (+3.7), and won the long jump at a strong outdoor open of 6.28m/20-07.25 (+2.2). Indya Dotson was the runner-up in her first outdoor meet as a Rebel at an all-conditions PR of 6.03m/19-09.50 (+3.1).

Ole Miss took the top four spots in the women's pole vault, led by transfer Rachel Homoly at 4.00m/13-01.50. Mary Cate Doughty also cleared that height – a new outdoor PR – but took runner-up honors on total misses, tying the pair for 13th in Ole Miss history outdoors. Sophomore Katelyn Hulsey notched an outdoor PR of her own in third place at 3.85m/12-07.50.

Newly added transfer Sergio Del Barrio and sophomore Samuel Ferguson closed the night with a one-two finish in the men's 2000-meter steeplechase, with Del Barrio running 5:36.93 and and Ferguson 5:53.95.

Competition resumes Saturday morning with the women's high jump and women's discus.
