Softball Drops Opener to No. 4 Oklahoma
3/21/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program dropped its opening game against No. 4 Oklahoma, falling 10-0 in six innings on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (20-12, 0-7 SEC) kept the game close through the first four innings, before the Sooners (30-2, 4-0 SEC) offense pulled away late in the game.
Kyra Aycock took the circle for the Rebels and helped keep the top offense in the nation in check early on. Aycock worked out of a first inning jam and only allowed one run to score on a play that ended in a collision at second base on a possible double play turn in the second inning.
Aycock stifled the Sooners in the third inning with a scoreless frame, but the Sooners finally struck on a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0. Nevertheless, Aycock kept it close, with two strikeouts in the frame to keep the deficit in check.
The tide started to turn in the visitors favor in the fifth inning, as the Sooners scored three in the frame to make it 5-0. The Rebels tried to mount a rally in the bottom half of the frame, thanks to a leadoff single from Cassie Reasner and a Ryan Starr hit-by-pitch. Both got into scoring position on a groundout, but the Sooners successfully stranded both runners.
Ultimately, the Sooners took control late, scoring five more runs in the sixth inning to build a 10-0 advantage. Persy Llamas picked up her second hit of the day in the bottom half to try and spark a rally, but the Rebels could not drive a run home.
The Rebels are set for game two with the Sooners on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
