Seventh Inning Rally Falls Short as Softball Drops Finale to No. 4 Alabama

3/8/2026 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program mounted a seventh-inning comeback that fell just short, falling 2-1 to No. 4 Alabama on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (18-8, 0-3 SEC) pushed for a comeback, scoring in the seventh inning but leaving the tying run on second base against the Crimson Tide (23-0, 3-0 SEC).

From the start of the game, both pitchers commanded the circle as Emilee Boyer went toe-to-toe with Crimson Tide starter Jocelyn Briski. Boyer stifled early attempts at a run from the Tide, picking up three strikeouts through the first two frames.

In the third inning, Alabama pressed for a run, loading the bases with just one out. However, Boyer generated a key ground out and strikeout to keep the game level.

The Tide jumped ahead in the fourth inning with an RBI single and despite Persy Llamas breaking up the no-hitter in the bottom half of the frame, the Tide were able to stifle the Rebels and increase the lead to 2-0.

Boyer continued to keep the Rebels in the game, registering eight strikeouts over a complete seven innings in the circle. However, it would take until the seventh inning for the Rebel offense to click.

Llamas started the rally with her second hit of the game and was run for by Izzy Rettiger. Facing the final out of the game, Cassie Reasner legged out an infield single and moved Rettiger to third base. Taylor Roman was next up and drove an RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to 2-1.

However, Alabama would turn to Vic Moten to close out the game and the Crimson Tide secured the final out via the strikeout to end the rally.

The Rebels head back out on the road for a midweek game at North Alabama, facing off with the Lions on Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via ESPN Plus.
