OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team will tip off the 1999-2000 season Sunday with an exhibition game against the Houston Jaguars at 2:00 p.m., at Tad Smith Coliseum.

The Lady Rebels, embarking on the program's 25th year, finished the 1998-99 season with a 15-13 overall record, 6-8 in the SEC. They posted the 23rd winning season in the program's history and earned a berth in the Women's NIT.

This year the Lady Rebels return three starters including the second leading scorer from last year, junior guard Becky Myatt. Myatt averaged 10.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She also led the team in three-pointers with 64 (a single season record).

In addition to Myatt, Ole Miss returns senior center Frankie Boyd and freshman point guard Takela Corbitt. Boyd averaged 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in her first season as a Lady Rebel last year. She came on late in the year and scored 24 points and 10 rebounds against Tennessee-Martin in the first round of the WNIT. Corbitt started 19 games as a freshman and averaged 7.7 points and 3.0 assists per game.

The Lady Rebels have nine letterwinners back from last year's team including seniors Sinissia Wysinger and Tanya Bolden, juniors Chandra Dorsey, (started eight games at point guard), Stephanie Murphy and Heather Bantz, and sophomore TaShondrea Moton.

Seven newcomers joined the team and are expected to make early contributions. Latasha Moore, a transfer from Howard Junior College in Texas, earned first-team All-Region honors, while averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Sophomore Von Kirk of Huntsville, Ala., hails from Trinity Valley Community College, where she helped lead her team to the Junior College National Championship and was rated one of the Top 25 JUCO players in the nation.

Kayla Madewell of Farmington, Ark., Shayla Day of New Madrid, Mo., Leah Henley of Warren, Ark., LaTasha Harris of Texarkana, Ark., and Kesha Howell, a walkon from Oxford and Northwest Junior College, round out the list of newcomers.

The Lady Rebels will host Australia in their final exhibition game on Saturday Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m., before opening the regular season at home against Memphis on Nov. 19 at 5:00 p.m.
