Ole Miss Sweeps Through The South Florida Classic

TAMPA, Fla. - Sophomore Von Kirk scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Ole Miss women's basketball team to a 79-66 win over Cal Poly in the South Florida Classic, Saturday. The Lady Rebels improved to 6-1 on the year, while Cal Poly dropped to 1-4.
Kirk was 6-of-9 from the floor including three three-pointers. Senior Sinissia Wysinger notched a career-high 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. She scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.
Ole Miss led by 14 (32-18) with 3:41 to go in the first half, but Cal Poly went on an 11-0 run including two three-pointers by Jennifer Sorosky and a three at the buzzer by Kristy Baker, to make it 32-29 at the half.
"We played solid up until the last three or four minutes of the first half." head coach Ron Aldy said. "We were beating ourselves at the end of the half. We told the team at halftime that for us to be a team to contend with, we couldn't allow that to happen. We did a lot better in the second half."
The Lady Rebels jumped on the Mustangs early in the second half going on a 13-2 run to go up 14 (45-31) at the 16:20 mark. Ole Miss led by as much as 23 (77-54) with 4:32 to go in the game and never looked back.
The Mustangs were led by Stephanie Osorio, who scored 15 points. Baker had 13 points and seven rebounds. Cal Poly shot 42.9 percent from the floor, while Ole Miss finished at 46.2 percent and 34.8 from three-point range.
Junior Becky Myatt hit three from behind the arc for 11 points. Overall, she had eight three-pointers in the tournament, and with 129 career threes, needs 10 to pass Jackie Martin (1987-92) for second on the all-time list. Junior Stephanie Murphy went 5-of-10 from the field for 10 points.
In the first round of the tournament, Ole Miss shot a season-best 46.4 percent on their way to a 90-55 win over Delaware. Myatt had 17 points in that game including five threes. The Lady Rebels will take a little time off for final exams before returning to the court Dec. 16, as they host Middle Tennessee State at 7:00 p.m. in Tad Smith Coliseum.
