OXFORD, Miss. -- University of Mississippi Athletic Director John Shafer has recommended the hiring of former Lady Rebel basketball player Kim Rosamond as an assistant coach for the Ole Miss women's basketball program. The recommendation, made on Tuesday, is pending approval of the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.

"I feel like Kim is a perfect fit for this position with her knowledge of the program as a student-athlete, and her love of Ole Miss," Head Coach Ron Aldy said. "She brings a multi-talented resume to the table as far as what she can do for Ole Miss and the team. I respect Kim for what she did last year. I can't say enough of how proud we are to have her choose this route. Kim's talent and education could have taken her elsewhere, but she chose to come here."

Rosamond, was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Rebels from 1995-98. This past year, Rosamond was the recipient of the team's Lady Rebel Award, which is given to the player who excels on and off the court. Rosamond tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during preseason practice and missed the first 10 games. She returned to the game at the Northern Lights Invitational and played in the final 20 games.

An excellent student-athlete, Rosamond became the first Lady Rebel to be named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years of her career and only the second in the history of the SEC to accomplish this feat. She was named to one of the school's honor rolls every semester.

"Being able to come back to Ole Miss and the Lady Rebel program is a dream come true for me," Rosamond said. "It is a great opportunity to coach in the nation's top women's basketball conference (SEC), and a chance to work under one of the best women's basketball coaches (Aldy) in the country. I think if you ask anyone who has worked with coach Aldy, they will agree that he is one of the best in the women's game. The program is headed in the right direction and I am excited to be a part of something good at Ole Miss."

A native of Louisville, Miss., Rosamond graduated from Ole Miss this past May with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Advertising. In addition to playing basketball, Rosamond was a member of Phi Mu sorority, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the M-Club.
