Bethley Named SEC Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. - Senior forward Tarsha Bethley of the Ole Miss women's basketball team was named the SEC Player of the Week Monday for her outstanding performance last week in leading the Lady Rebels to a 2-1 record.
Bethley, a native of Hollandale, Miss., became the 18th Lady Rebel to score a 1,000 career points. She scored the 1,000th point of her career with her 20-point performance in leading the Lady Rebels to a 100-77 win over Florida Atlantic Sunday. She also dished out a career-high eight assists in the win and grabbed six rebounds.
A 1998 All Southeastern Conference selection, Bethley sank a clutch three-pointer with a minute remaining as Ole Miss defeated Memphis 70-68 last Thursday. For the week, Bethley averaged 16 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists over three games.
Ole Miss has had eight players named SEC Player of the Week. Bethley is the first since Yolanda Moore earned the honor on Dec. 10, 1995.
The Lady Rebels are preparing for the Deer Run Company Classic hosted by the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, Friday and Saturday. Ole Miss will meet UNC Charlotte in the first round Friday at 5:00 p.m.
