Rebel Netters Advance to Main Draw at National Clay Courts

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The No. 5 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team will have three players in the main draw of the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships as Vikrant Chada and Sebastien Lami won their matches Wednesday to advance into the 64-player championship field.
Chada and Lami were one of 16 qualifiers to advance into the 64-player main draw which begins Thursday. Sophomore Martin Sjoqvist is also in the main draw.
Chada defeated Tulsa's Gareth Williams (85th-ranked) 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the main draw. The sophomore has started the season where he left off last year. He won his last seven matches of the 1997 season and this year is he off to a 5-1 record including notching his second win against a nationally-ranked opponent with the victory over Williams. Chada will play Daniel Anderson of VCU in the first round of the main draw Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
Lami, 58th-ranked, bested Andreas Tiltscher of Southern Mississippi 7-6(5), 6-3 to reach the main draw. He is now 5-1 on the season, and will face Alberto Brause (9-16 seed) of Duke in the first round of the main draw at 10:00 a.m..
Sjoqvist, Mississippi Intercollegiate finalist, squares off against Ryan Sachire of Notre Dame in the first round at 8:30 a.m.
Sjoqvist and Lami will team up in the main draw doubles, which begin at 4:00 p.m. Thursday. They will play Chris James and David Myers of Purdue.
The first day of competition will feature two rounds of singles and a round of doubles.
