OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team dropped three spots to No. 8 in the latest Rolex Collegiate Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The first edition of the spring rankings was determined by a vote of the ITA National Tournament Committee.
The Rebels are currently 9-2 on the year with both their losses coming against Mississippi State who moved up to No. 3, and Pepperdine, who came in at No. 7. The rest of the rankings will be determined by a computer points per match formula.
Nine of the 12 SEC member schools are ranked in the top 25 with four in the top 10. Ole Miss still has remaining matches with three of the top five teams in the nation, including Mississippi State, Georgia (No. 4) and LSU (No. 5). Other SEC schools making the top 25 include Kentucky (No. 15), Auburn (No. 16), Florida (No. 19), Alabama (No. 20) and Tennessee (No. 23).
Rebel junior Sebastien DeChaunac jumped seven spots in the latest singles rankings to No. 11. DeChaunac is 12-2 overall and 8-2 at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Martin Sjoqvist is ranked 26th with a 19-11 overall record and Vikrant Chada is 56th at 17-8.
DeChaunac and Sjoqvist debuted in the doubles rankings at No. 24. The two have posted wins over two top 20 teams. It marks the second year in a row for Sjoqvist to be nationally ranked in singles and doubles.
