Rebel Netters Named to SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Four Ole Miss men's tennis players were among 48 student-athletes named to the 1999 SEC Men's Tennis Academic Honor Roll released Tuesday.

David Blackburn has a 4.0 grade point average in Accounting. He is one of only three student-athletes on the honor roll to have a 4.0. Blackburn has made a 4.0 every semester. Ben Cousins made the honor roll with a 3.87 in Biological Science. James Shortall owns a 3.16 (major-undecided) and Martin Sjoqvist has a 3.31 in German. Cousins, Blackburn and Sjoqvist have made the honor roll every year that they have been eligible.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours toward a degree.

The Rebels are the top seed in the upcoming SEC Championships which begin on Thursday in Gainesville, Fla. Ole Miss will meet the winner of the South Carolina/Mississippi State match on Friday at 7:00 a.m. CST.
