Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team easily defeated Murray State, 85-45, on Sunday behind a great team defensive effort. The Lady Rebels improved to 6-0 on the season by forcing the Lady Racers into shooting a dismal 25 percent from the field.

"We played with a little more in our step today," said Lady Rebel head coach Ron Aldy. "Most of Murray State's shots were hurried or contested and I thought we had a lot to do with that. I was very pleased with our defensive effort."

The Lady Rebels jumped on the Lady Racers early and forged a 20-point halftime lead at 43-23. Ole Miss did not let up in the second half and coasted to the 85-45 victory. The Lady Rebels shot 41.1 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the free throw line. They also out-rebounded Murray State 55-43.

The Lady Rebels used a balanced offensive attack as four players scored in double figures. Leading the way was junior Saundra Jackson who scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Jackson, playing just 19 minutes, made her first six shots of the game.

Also scoring in double figures for Ole Miss was senior Becky Myatt, sophomore Kayla Madewell and freshman Tywanna Inmon. Myatt made 4-of-7 three-point field goals and had 14 points, while Madewell posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Inmon added 10 points and five rebounds.

Junior Sherika Wright recorded a career-high seven assists and had just one turnover. Junior TaShondrea Moton had eight points and seven rebounds.

"It was good to see Saundra play like that today," said Aldy. "We will need her to have games like that if we want to be able to compete in the SEC.

"Obviously we do better as a team when we get good production out of our posts like we did today. We need that kind of balance every time out so it will make us harder to defend as a team. If we can get that sort of balance it will make a difference in the game for us on both ends of the floor."

The loss drops Murray State to 2-4 on the season. The Lady Racers were led by Monika Gadson with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Ole Miss will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 6, when they host Middle Tennessee State. Game time is 7 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
