REBELS VS. SOUTHERN MISS: Tonight's game is 86th meeting between the Rebels and Golden Eagles dating back to 1929 ... Ole Miss holds a 54-31 advantage in the series ... Golden Eagle pitchers have an ERA of 4.24 (85 IP, 40 ER), and opponents are hitting .276 against them with nine HRs.
IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss is unranked in the three major college baseball polls but did receive 31 votes in the latest Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 poll to finish ninth among "Others Receiving Votes."
AFTER 10 GAMES LAST YEAR: Ole Miss was 5-5 after 10 games last season ... the Rebels were hitting .304 (108-355) with 12 HRs, 56 RBIs, 19 doubles and six triples ... they had outscored the opposition 65-54 ... REBEL BULLET POINTS:
The 8-2 start is the best under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Pat Harrison and the Rebels' best 10-game start since going 9-1 to begin the 1994 season.
Ole Miss has recorded 10 or more hits in eight of the 10 games this season, while holding the opposition to 10 hits or less in nine of the 10 games.
Rebel hitters have struck out only 47 times in 391 plate appearances through 10 games, compared to 83 times in 393 plate appearances in the first 10 games of last season.
Ole Miss has stole 17 bases in 20 attempts this season. Last season, the Rebels didn't steal their 17th base until March 20 in the 22nd game of the year against Kentucky.
